Sustainable value for the environment
For decades, paperwork has been an indispensable part of banking operations. Each transaction that arises often comes with many types of documents that need to be printed, signed and stored. With millions of transactions taking place each year, the amount of paper consumed by the financial industry is not a small number.
As climate change and sustainable development become global concerns, every small change in daily habits can create positive impacts on the environment. In the banking industry, that journey is being promoted by strong digital solutions, in which paperless transactions are considered an important step forward.

Many banks around the world have switched to this model – where documents are created, certified and stored entirely on the electronic environment.
Reducing paper use will mean reducing the demand for resource exploitation for paper production, limiting water and energy consumption, and reducing emissions generated during production, transportation, and storage. At the same time, reducing the volume of paper records also helps organizations reduce physical storage area, optimize operating costs, and reduce waste generated during document destruction.
Not only that, paperless transactions also contribute to promoting a green lifestyle. When customers gradually become accustomed to using electronic documents instead of traditional invoices, transaction slips or paper forms, a new sustainable consumption habit is also formed.
More and more customers are choosing digital solutions instead of traditional papers, environmental benefits will not only stop at the scale of businesses or a profession but will contribute to forming a greener and more sustainable consumer ecosystem.
VPBank and green growth strategy
As a bank pursuing a sustainable development strategy associated with digital transformation, Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank) identifies process digitization as one of the important solutions to realize the goal of green banking. In which, paperless transactions are one of the digital solutions that VPBank has implemented. The deployment of paperless transactions throughout the system not only helps improve customer experience but also significantly reduces the amount of paper used in daily operations.

With the paperless transaction model, the entire process from creating documents, authenticating, signing transactions to storing is carried out on a digital platform. When arriving at the counter, customers check-in and are recognized and welcomed by the system on the tablet device. Transaction information is set up in the form of electronic documents instead of being printed on paper as before.
Customers can confirm transactions through modern digital methods such as OTP, PIN codes on the VPBank NEO application or face biometric authentication right at the counter. After completion, electronic documents will be sent directly to the customer's email. This process completely eliminates the steps of printing documents and handwriting, while significantly shortening transaction time.
According to a bank representative, VPBank has deployed paperless transactions at 100% of branches throughout the system. The transfer rate reached nearly 50% of the total goods with a total number of transactions in the first and second quarters of 2026 of nearly 60,000 transactions. It is expected that in 2026, additional types of transactions besides depositing, withdrawing, and transferring money will continue to be added such as: opening new accounts, changing customer information, other specific types of transactions... to diversify transactions carried out on paperless.

Ms. Pham Tra My (Thanh Xuan ward, Hanoi) said she is very satisfied when implementing the paperless transaction method at VPBank thanks to its speed and convenience. "Besides, not using paper documents also helps reduce paper waste, so I am also very happy to have joined hands to contribute to environmental protection," Ms. My added.
According to internal statistics from VPBank, the paperless transaction model helps save about 9,000 papers per month. The processing time of transactions for deposit, withdrawal and transfer at the counter is reduced by 40% compared to before. The post-transaction survey results also show that 95% of customers are satisfied with the paperless transaction experience at VPBank.
Representatives of VPBank shared: "We believe that digital transformation is only truly meaningful when it brings practical value to customers and the community. Paperless transactions are not simply replacing paper documents with electronic documents, but also a step forward in building a modern, safer and more environmentally friendly banking experience. This is also part of VPBank's commitment on the journey of sustainable development, where technology is applied to create positive values for society.
From an improvement in the operating process, paperless transactions are gradually becoming a new standard, helping to connect online and offline experiences more seamlessly.
