Besides the attraction of exchanging old batteries and receiving green gifts at transaction points, many customers participating in the OCB Pin Hunter campaign are also particularly interested in the journey of batteries after being collected.
Accordingly, the bank said that not only stopping at collection activities, OCB also pays great attention to the post-reception processing stage. Old batteries after being collected at nearly 200 green transaction points nationwide will be concentrated at 176 OCB branches and transaction offices. Here, all batteries will be handed over to specialized units for transportation to hazardous waste treatment areas in accordance with regulations.
At the treatment area, batteries are put into a closed treatment process. In the "pre-"treatment step, old batteries are sorted and put into the electronic waste treatment system. Then, batteries are incinerated in a specialized incineration system consisting of two incineration chambers. The primary incineration chamber operates at a temperature of 650 - 1,150°C to destroy hazardous compounds, while the secondary incineration chamber operates at 1,050 - 1,232°C to completely burn toxic gases generated during the treatment process.
Emissions are then further processed through a system including water heat exchange equipment, neutralization tower, auxiliary absorption tower and dust separation tower, before being led through a 21m high exhaust fan and chimney system to ensure environmental safety.
In particular, the ash and slag discharged after treatment instead of being safely buried will be reused as raw materials for cement production, this solution not only helps regenerate waste but also ensures absolute non-emission of hazardous waste into the environment. At the same time, wastewater and exhaust gas from the treatment process are also strictly controlled through regular monitoring programs. The automatic exhaust gas monitoring system is transmitted data directly to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, ensuring that all indicators meet Vietnamese Standards (QCVN).
Transparency of the treatment process helps program participants feel more secure when bringing old batteries to collection points. In fact, the Pin Hunter campaign is not only an activity to collect used batteries, but also a way for banks and customers to form a habit of treating hazardous waste properly, contributing to minimizing environmental impacts" - A representative of the bank's leadership shared.
It is known that each battery treated according to the correct process will limit the risk of releasing heavy metals into the environment. Only 1 month after phase 2 officially started, OCB Pin Hunter has attracted more than 3,000 participants, collecting more than 2 tons of old batteries nationwide, a clear proof that environmental protection is becoming an increasingly important part of daily life.
With the message "Old drain turns green - Earth becomes healthier", the program is expected to continue to receive community response, contributing to forming the habit of classifying and treating hazardous waste properly, towards a sustainable future.
