Special staff
At Son La Hydropower Plant - the largest hydropower plant in Southeast Asia, a special "staff" has been assigned by Son La Hydropower Company to supervise the operation around the Plant for about 2 years now. This employee - made by the Company itself - is integrated with smart sensors for environmental monitoring and an analysis application for photo processing to check the condition of the electrical cabinet, providing accurate information to the operator.
According to the leader of Son La Hydropower Company, the application of integrated robots with AI aims to automate part of repetitive work, helping to detect problems that are difficult to observe with the naked eye, while monitoring locations with high risk factors. The application is also gradually moving towards the goal of remote control and monitoring testing, reducing the number of on-duty people, improving labor productivity and optimizing production costs... In particular, thanks to this robot "staff", the factory's employees no longer have to move and work in unsafe areas such as high-pressure cylinders, high-pressure equipment...

Equipment monitoring robots are only one of AI technology applications at Son La Hydroelectric Company. At the end of 2024, the product "Digitalization and analysis of Francis hydraulic turbine characteristics, serving the management of hydroelectric plants" of the author of Son La Hydroelectric Company has been recognized by Vietnam Electricity Group as one of 10 Make by EVN products. The product uses the open source software Engauge and AI algorithms, helping to improve the accuracy of hydroelectric plants, optimizing water sources and generated power. The product has successfully applied at Son La and Lai Chau hydroelectric plants and the training transferred to Quang Tri Hydroelectricity. Because Son La Hydroelectric Company completely owns the source code, the product also has the ability to expand, develop more and commercialize products.
Artificial intelligence is also being applied by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) to manage monitoring and operating "the backbone of the electricity system". In particular, "AI application power transmission line management system" implemented by electricity transmission company 2 is also a product recognized as Make by EVN in 2024. Automatic flight inspection of the transmission grid helps optimize the volume of inspection in each flight, limit errors and reduce the time and level of training requirements for the workers. In addition, AI system also supports automatic editing, data arrangement, automatic testing and abnormal detection of the device. Up to now, AI systems are still being "trained" by units in EVNNPT to constantly improve their work efficiency.
In electricity business and services, AI technology has been thoroughly used by Power Corporations, helping to improve customer service efficiency (CSKH). These are virtual assistants, AI chatbot for service, receiving requests, and providing information. "AI staff" at the Customer Service Center is capable of serving many customers at the same time with uniform quality according to the process, working 24/700, thereby improving the efficiency of serving customers using electricity in cyberspace.
AI is increasingly popular and available in most aspects of EVN's operations. For example, with online meetings, meeting information is compiled by staff by typing and manual synthesis. This step also takes a lot of time and can be errors. Therefore, Information Technology Company - Northern Power Corporation has implemented a solution to improve the work of monitoring software system Backup. Thanks to the application of AI, from the fact that it can take hours to synthesize and analyze meeting content, it now only takes a few minutes to complete this work. AI also helps reduce errors, improve work processes, provide timely and accurate information to support decision making and monitoring work progress after meetings...
New wind in EVN
The promotion of AI application - the result of industrial revolution 4.0 - is one of the clear evidences of the efforts of the EVN Party Committee and the Group in urgently and promptly implement the Resolution 57- NQ/TW of December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthrough development of science and technology, innovation and transformation of the country.
In order to thoroughly grasp and organize the effective implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, dated February 24, 2025, the Party Committee of Vietnam Electricity Group developed and issued Action Program No. 40-CTr/swing to implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW (referred to as Action Program No. 40). Accordingly, the Group and member units are determined to carry out the tasks, digital conversion programs and development of science and technology, innovation associated with the production and business activities of the group and units, bringing practical effects.

By automating procedures, supporting data analysis and forecasting, AI helps the apparatus at EVN units become more and more streamlined and professional. Instead of spending hours looking up documents and drafting reports; instead of spending a whole day for "orange shirt" workers to climb mountains and ice forests to follow the transmission line...; with the use of AI support, EVN employees can spend time and effort on tasks that require higher difficulty and creativity.
For AI, EVN has a policy of approaching and applying it systematically and comprehensively. In Action Program No. 40, the Group aims to establish specialized databases and data centers for the Electricity industry, which are the basis for providing artificial intelligence platforms used in analysis problems, calculations to optimize the operation of power plants, power transmission grid, and effective distribution.
In addition, EVN emphasizes the viewpoint: ensuring network security, data security, information security in cyberspace of organizations and individuals is a consistent and inseparable requirement in the process of developing science, technology, innovation and digital transformation.
At the same time, EVN also proposed stronger policies to develop technology infrastructure, invest in research, application and training of AI human resources. At the meeting of the EVN Enterprise Innovation and Development Board in 2025, the Chairman of EVN Members' Council Dang Hoang An - Head of the Steering Committee, requested the units when implementing the restructuring project to focus on improving management capacity, perfecting the system of internal management regulations, strengthening technology application; Promote digital conversion, and especially to change thinking and how to do it.
Along with implementing the "digital revolution", EVN has been building a digital culture throughout the Group. Units and organizations in EVN have organized many activities, training programs and coaching to help employees and workers raise awareness and knowledge of digital technology, gradually master and effectively exploit new tools and solutions.
From human factors to processes and technology, EVN is strongly transforming under the orientation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW. In particular, artificial intelligence is not only a technological solution, but also a driving force for innovation in thinking and improving management capacity throughout EVN, building a modern, smart Electricity industry and serving society better and better.
