Vietnam will be greener from millions of small actions

Small green actions, when spread, will create big changes. The Green Fourth Day campaign encourages millions of people to join hands for a sustainable future.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Cuc (Vietnam University) assessed "The Fourth Green Day" launched by Vingroup Corporation as the largest green living campaign ever in Vietnam.

The campaign has a comprehensive approach from green mobility, sustainable consumption to educating the young generation, laying an important foundation for Vietnam's journey towards Net Zero 2050.

In your opinion, what makes the "Green Fourth Day" campaign special in the current context of Vietnam?

- The most special thing about "The Fourth Day of the Green Year" is its comprehensiveness and ability to spread. This campaign touches almost every aspect of life, from the simplest things such as moving by green means, reducing sources of indigestible waste such as limiting the use of plastic bags, to saving energy and many other activities.

If you look at past environmental campaigns, they often focus on just one individual aspect. However, with the 4th Green Day initiated by the Green Future Fund, there is the participation of many member companies and partners in many different fields: retail (Vincom), transportation (BSM Green, Vin bus), to education (Vinschool) and healthcare (Vinmec). This creates a widespread network, capable of spreading to many people.

In addition, this campaign also has the participation of many organizations and businesses operating in the field of sustainable development.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Cuc highly appreciated the uniqueness and comprehensiveness of the "Green Fourth" campaign.

How do you evaluate the specific actions that Vingroup is implementing within the framework of this campaign?

- I am really impressed with the way Vingroup takes practical and easy-to-do actions. For example, Vincom has stepped up its program to collect old plastic bottles and batteries at Green refreshment stations, or SM Green has launched a incentive program for electric taxis every Wednesday. These are small actions but when carried out regularly and on a large scale, they will create a significant impact.

In addition, the campaign's target audience is very "All-people". It can be clearly seen from the launch of the "Green Fourth Day" campaign with the presence of all ages in the stands, from students to experts, businessmen and representatives of state agencies.

Before the campaign, Vingroup's green activities also contributed a lot to promoting the journey towards Net Zero. Data shows that in 2024, Vingroup contributed to reducing emissions equivalent to nearly 420,000 tons of CO2.

Vingroup is considered a pioneer in promoting a green lifestyle in Vietnam. In your opinion, what role do businesses play in this journey?

- The role of enterprises, especially large corporations like Vingroup, is extremely important. They are units with enough resources, influence and the ability to lead the trend.

Previously, people often thought that economic development and environmental protection were two conflicting goals. But Vingroup and some other pioneering enterprises have proven that they can go in parallel.

However, no business can do this alone. To achieve the Net Zero goal by 2050, we need the cooperation of all parties - from the Government, businesses, educational institutions and each citizen.

In your opinion, how will the "4th Green Day" campaign contribute to Vietnam's Net Zero goal by 2050?

- The 4th Green Day campaign is an important piece in the larger picture of sustainable development of Vietnam. It not only helps reduce carbon emissions directly through specific actions, but also contributes to changing people's awareness and behavior - a prerequisite to achieve the Net Zero goal by 2050.

The journey towards a Net Zero commitment is not only the responsibility of the Government or large enterprises but also requires the cooperation of each citizen. The "4th Green Day" campaign initiated by Vingroup with the spirit of "All-national - All-people - Comprehensive" is proof of that.

I believe that, thanks to campaigns like Green Fourth Day, Vietnam will have a greener, more sustainable future. Because, as the famous saying goes: Grand journeys start with small steps. And here, small steps are green habits that every Vietnamese person implements every day.
