Green transformation from small businesses

To realize the Net Zero commitment for Vietnam by 2050, we not only need big policies but also need the community's contribution from very small things.

Action from small things

Vietnam is facing serious environmental challenges, from air pollution, plastic waste to the increasingly obvious impacts of climate change. Pollution has had a profound impact on people's lives and health. To have a green and sustainable future for the next generation, Vietnam needs the cooperation of the entire community to create substantial and sustainable changes.

Sharing about this issue, Hoang Tra My - Huynh Thuc Khang High School, Nghe An, champion of the Green Voice debate contest - said that changing something is really difficult, it cannot come from a single individual or organization but requires us, young people, to be pioneers.

Each fabric bag replacing a nylon bag, each reusable water bottle instead of a single-use plastic bottle, each time we proactively classify waste, or choose environmentally friendly products... are all actions of great value if done wholeheartedly and persistently.

Ha Thi Hien Anh, who is in the same school and won the award with Hoang Tra My, expressed: "We believe that, with the spirit of determination and cooperation of everyone, a greener, more sustainable Vietnam and achieving the Net Zero goal by 2050 is completely possible".

Encouraging the community

From an educational perspective, Dr. Tran Nam Tu - Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment - Ministry of Education and Training - said that in recent times, environmental protection education in educational institutions has had positive changes. Environmental protection education is a process of integrating knowledge, skills and living values to help students realize the importance of environmental protection and form habits and responsible behavior towards nature.

Dr. Tran Nam Tu emphasized that for green transformation to become a reality, family and surrounding communities are important factors to contribute to strengthening educational activities and forming green living habits. Environmental protection education does not stop at theory but also aims to change the daily behavior of each person, that behavior must come from many sides. Thereby, students are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out small actions but have a big impact such as saving energy, recycling and using environmentally friendly products.

Sharing the same view, Prof. Dr. People's Artist Dang Thi Kim Chi - Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment - said that practical actions can be taken immediately as follows:

For students in primary, secondary and high schools, we need to include green education content and topics in the curriculum. The education program needs to integrate green projects into experiential activities such as planting trees and classifying waste. The school also needs to encourage students to participate in research activities on green science and technology suitable for their age.

For students of universities and vocational secondary schools, we need to build a vocational training program associated with green education. Units organize extracurricular activities, establish volunteer units to apply green technology to life.

Schools also need to encourage students to participate in green scientific and technological research activities according to their professional fields. The school also needs to encourage student competitions to conduct scientific research and honor students with good achievements in research, development and application of green technology. Units encourage students to increase the use of public transportation, save energy, use renewable energy, carry out green consumption, green shopping...

In order to encourage green transformation, on February 26, the Green Future Fund - Vingroup Corporation officially launched the "Green Wednesday" campaign. Accordingly, every Wednesday will be a day to encourage the community to make small but practical changes such as limiting disposable plastic items, saving energy, switching to green vehicles using electric vehicles... Member companies and affiliated companies of Vingroup will implement a series of incentive programs, green activities and environmental protection initiatives.

Previously, Vingroup has successfully organized and implemented campaigns such as "Intensive Vietnamese spirit - For a green future" (June 2024) and the "For a green capital" campaign (January 2025).
