Gold Price Forecast
World gold prices hit a record high amid a drop in the USD index. At 5:45 p.m. on September 24, the US Dollar Index, which measures the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies, stood at 100.492 points (down 0.06%).
Gold prices hit a record high as investors awaited data from the US to determine whether the Federal Reserve’s interest rate cut last week was the first in a series of sharp cuts.
Fed Governor Christopher Waller said he would likely support a 25 basis point rate cut at the Fed's next meetings in November and December if the economy performs as he expects, but warned that another 50 basis point cut could come if the labor market weakens.
"Gold prices continue to be supported by a series of dovish comments from Fed officials," said market strategist Yeap Jun Rong.
Gold prices also got a boost from increased demand for safe-haven assets as traders watched escalating tensions in the Middle East, with fears of a broader conflict.
Rising tensions in the Middle East are boosting demand for gold as a hedge against risk, and if tensions persist for a long time, gold prices could continue to rise, said Yeap Jun Rong, a market strategist at IG Bank.
