In recent trading sessions, VPS shares of Vietnam Antibiotics Joint Stock Company (listed on the HSX) have become the focus of attention with a series of skyrocketing price increases.
Updated until 10:30 this morning (October 17), VPS shares continued to " run low" when they increased their range by 6.82% to 14,100 VND/share. Notably, the liquidity of this code exploded strongly with nearly 500,000 units matched for orders in the morning alone. The buyers are completely overwhelming with hundreds of thousands of stocks waiting to match at the ceiling price, while the sellers are almost "empty on the list".
This is an extremely unusual development for a stock in the agricultural and pharmaceutical industry with quite low average liquidity.
According to financial reports, the business activities of Vietnam Antibiotic Joint Stock Company did not have any breakthroughs enough to create such a large "wave".
Annual business results show stability but no explosive growth factors, with the after-tax profit of the parent company in recent years ranging from 13 to 24 billion VND. In 2023, the company made a profit of 13.58 billion VND and this figure for 2024 is 23.95 billion VND.
Quarterly, business results even showed fluctuations. In the first quarter of 2025, the company reported a net loss of more than 6.4 billion VND before having a return profit of 7.18 billion VND in the second quarter of 2025.
Regarding valuation indicators, before this increase, VPS shares traded with P/B (priced above book value) were only 1.0 times, showing that the market did not expect high growth in businesses.
The "wave" of this stock occurred almost at the same time as the market received the hottest news.
On October 16, 2025, VPS Securities Joint Stock Company was officially licensed and opened a stock purchase registration for the initial public offering (IPO).
Accordingly, this enterprise will offer 202.31 million shares for a minimum price of VND 60,000/share.
The coincidence between the VPS stock code being listed and the VPS brand name of the stock company about to IPO is considered by investors to be the cause of the incident.
On investment forums, the most common assumption is that many investors, whether enthusiastically "hunting" for super stocks or lacking in research, mistakenly believe that the VPS code of the antiseptic company is the stock of that securities company. They quickly placed buy orders, creating a virtual demand force that pushed stock prices up.
Discussing this phenomenon, an analyst at a securities company said: "This is a classic example of the FOMO (fear of missing out) mentality and the impact of rumors on the market. Obviously, the price increase of VPS (Pesticide) stocks does not come from internal factors of the business but shows great signs from name misunderstanding".
