Gold price forecast
Gold bars have surpassed the $4,350/ounce mark, after rising nearly 2% in yesterday's trading session to eliminate most of the losses of the previous three sessions.
US Treasury bond yields fell across all terms, after soaring right after the Fed's consensus decision on Wednesday to raise interest rates by an additional 0.25 percentage points. That shift eased pressure on gold, an asset that often loses ground when bond yields rise due to not bringing interest rates.
Oil prices fell for the third consecutive day due to supply disruptions in the Middle East showing signs of cooling down, reducing energy cost pressure on inflation. Saudi Arabia has restored flow through an important pipeline in a few days, while some oil tankers continue to move through the disputed Hormuz Strait area.
The surge in yesterday's trading session brought gold prices back above the 100-day moving average, a measure of price momentum. However, this price level is still nearly one-fifth lower than the levels before the Iran war began at the end of February.
Investors have turned to gold bars in recent weeks, betting that the long-term drivers of this precious metal will continue to be maintained.
However, Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh's monetary tightening statement on inflation increased market expectations of at least another wave of interest rate hikes this year and a maximum of two more in 2027, factors that create potential resistance for gold bars.
