Buy-sell spread is very high
The loss of gold buyers after 6 months not only came from the sharp decrease in market prices, but also directly affected by the difference between buying and selling prices at enterprises.
On February 3, DOJI, Phu Quy and Bao Tin Minh Chau both maintained the buying - selling difference at 3 million VND/tael for both SJC gold bars and 9999 gold rings. By August 3, this gap increased to around the threshold of 4 million VND/tael at all three businesses.
This means that immediately after buying gold, people had to bear a loss corresponding to the buying-selling difference. As gold prices continued to fall, the loss due to the market decline also added disadvantages from the widening buying-selling gap. Therefore, the actual loss of buyers is higher than the mere decrease of the listed price.
In the context of strong gold price fluctuations, people should not buy out of fear of missing opportunities (FOMO) or chasing short-term uptrends. The high buying - selling difference can quickly make buyers fall into a state of loss, even if gold prices only adjust slightly. In addition, the downward trend of world gold prices may continue to put pressure, pulling the domestic market down deeper.
On the international market, gold price decreased from 4,841.4 USD/ounce on February 3 to 4,059.9 USD/ounce on August 3, equivalent to a decrease of 781.5 USD/ounce, about 16.1%.
