Ho Chi Minh City - After nearly 7 months of construction, Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) is accelerating construction at two underground stations Pham Van Bach and Le Thi Rieng.

On August 3, at ST10 underground station (Pham Van Bach station) on Truong Chinh street, the construction atmosphere was urgent. Inside the construction site, many machines were operating continuously.

Dozens of workers were divided into many groups to process steel cages, prepare materials and deploy the first items of the underground station.

Currently, the construction unit is focusing on building a surrounding wall system about 534 m long and 41 m deep, expected to be completed in early 2027. This is an important item to help maintain soil and water stability during tunnel excavation, and at the same time become part of the load-bearing structure of the station after completion.

Pham Van Bach station is located at the gateway area of Tan Son Nhat airport, the last underground station before Metro Line 2 moves to the elevated section at Tan Binh station. The station is designed with two underground floors with a ticket sales area, functional room and passenger pick-up and drop-off area.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR), the construction of the fence is a stage with very high technical requirements, requiring strict control of material quality as well as labor safety.

Because the construction site is located on the crowded Truong Chinh street, the investor has organized barriers, traffic diversion and reasonable site arrangement to limit the impact on people's travel.

Meanwhile, at the Le Thi Rieng station construction site on Cach Mang Thang Tam street (Hoa Hung ward), many cranes, excavators and specialized equipment are also operating continuously.

Workers are performing many items such as cutting, welding, steel core processing, operating machinery and pumping groundwater to serve construction.

Mr. Phan Cong Bang - Head of MAUR - said that Pham Van Bach station and Le Thi Rieng station are two locations where TBM tunnel boring machines will be installed to construct the tunnel section of Metro Line 2.

Therefore, these are the stations that are prioritized for deployment first, with the basic goal of completion in the third quarter of 2027 to serve equipment installation and operation.

According to MAUR leaders, when the project enters the synchronous construction phase, traffic on some roads, especially Cach Mang Thang Tam street, may be affected.

The investor will coordinate with functional agencies to organize traffic diversion and regulation in stages to reduce congestion.

Ben Thanh - Tham Luong Metro is one of 8 metro lines Ho Chi Minh City aims to complete by 2030, contributing to increasing the total length of the urban railway network to 255 km.

After starting construction in mid-January 2026, this is also the route with the fastest deployment progress among the metro projects being invested by the city.

The project has a total investment of more than 55,000 billion VND from the city budget.

The metro line is nearly 11.27 km long, of which about 9.3 km is underground and about 2 km is elevated. The project includes 10 underground stations, 1 elevated station and 1 depot in Tham Luong.

The route starts from Ben Thanh station and ends at Tham Luong depot, passing through 14 wards including: Ben Thanh, Ban Co, Xuan Hoa, Hoa Hung, Vuon Lai, Nhieu Loc, Tan Hoa, Tan Son Nhat, Bay Hien, Tan Binh, Tan Son, Tay Thanh, Tan Son Nhi and Dong Hung Thuan.

In the early stages of operation, Metro Line 2 uses a 3-carriage train, with a maximum speed of 80 - 110 km/h, with a transport capacity of about 14,400 passengers per hour in each direction.

According to the plan, Metro Line No. 2 will be completed in 2030, becoming a large-capacity public transport axis connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with the Northwest gateway.
