Mr. Phillip Streible - chief strategist at Blue Line Futures - commented: "There are many geopolitical concerns... this is a move towards safe-haven assets". According to him, the next gold price increase target may be towards the 5,450 USD/ounce zone, while the important support level is around 5,120 USD/ounce.
Besides geopolitical factors, 10-year US Treasury bond yields fell to a three-month low, also contributing to supporting precious metals by reducing the opportunity cost of holding non-performing assets.
Newly released economic data shows that production costs in the US increased higher than expected, raising concerns that inflation may accelerate again. According to the CME FedWatch tool, the market is betting about 42% on the possibility that the Fed will cut interest rates by 0.25 percentage points in June.
From a long-term perspective, Bank of America (BofA) continues to maintain the 12-month gold price target at 6,000 USD/ounce. However, BofA experts warn that the market may face a short-term correction as capital inflows into gold show signs of slowing down after a period of hot growth.
