We went to a small house, more than 100m from the main road and saw the image of Ms. Tran Thi My Hanh sitting in a wheelchair, looking at the workers working in the shrimp garden next to the house with a sad look.
Ms. Tran Thi My Hanh (born in 1975, Hoa Ninh commune, Long Ho district) shared that she was a manual labor worker in the locality. However, in early 2019, she discovered a swollen patch of skin on her left foot. Although it was not painful, she thought it was just an ordinary wound and did not go to the doctor.
After a few days, the swelling on her foot turned black and became necrotic. Worried, she went to the provincial hospital for examination and was then transferred to Cho Ray Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City), where the doctor diagnosed her with diabetes with severe complications, forcing her to amputate half of her left foot.
A year after surgery, the wound on her left foot continued to necrosis, forcing her to have her leg cut off almost from the knee joint. When she returned home, she was put on a fake leg and started exercising, but after exercising, her right leg continued to be necroscopic, swollen red, and extended to the knee.
"In the end, I had to go back to the hospital and have my right leg amputated. Now, I have to use a wheelchair, moving around the house just by going. I am very worried about when my body will continue to be contagious, Ms. Hanh shared sadly.

Mr. Ut Vinh - Ms. Hanh's neighbor - said that when he heard that she had her legs amputated due to diabetes, his family and many people around often visited and helped her with gifts of cakes and rice.
"Everyone loves you and hopes for more support from the community. Her family has lived a very difficult life, since she became ill, her husband had to work and take care of housework, but his income was not enough to cover the cost of medicine and treatment, said Mr. Ut Vinh.
Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nguyen - Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Ninh commune - said that there are currently 16 poor households and 103 near-poor households in the locality, and Ms. Tran Thi My Hanh's family in Hoa Thuan hamlet is also in a difficult situation.
Mr. Nguyen added that in the past time, the People's Committee of the commune and the Red Cross Society have prioritized giving gifts from benefactors on holidays and Tet. They also introduced Ms. Hanh's situation to kind-hearted people and volunteers to help the family reduce difficulties.
"The local government has considered giving her monthly allowances and health insurance (HI) support, but treatment costs outside the health insurance list are still a big burden. We hope the community and charitable organizations will help Ms. Hanh's family during this difficult time," Mr. Nguyen shared.
