We went to the small house of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuoc (born in 1946) in Long Hiep hamlet, Long Ho commune. A desolate, empty space, peeling walls, and leaky corrugated iron roofs with a few patches. Each wind blowing in made the house cold, making the family's hardship even more obvious.
Ms. Thuoc has been paralyzed in one place since the beginning of 2024 after a serious stroke. Two lines of tears rolled down her cheeks, her eyes were empty, sometimes she choked up and could not speak.
Ms. Pham Thanh Thuy - Ms. Thuoc's daughter - said that she cannot work because she has to take care of her mother and take care of her disabled children in the family.
The monthly cost of medicine has reached more than 3 million VND. Recently, Ms. Thuoc also showed signs of frequent urination, and the doctor diagnosed her with kidney failure, making care more difficult.
"On windy nights, I have to stay up all night with my mother, take care of medicine and food, just hope my mother is not in pain, and live the remaining days with her children and grandchildren," said Ms. Thuy.
Ms. Sau Hue, Ms. Thuoc's neighbor, said that Ms. Thuoc's family had already had difficulties. Before Mrs. Thuoc fell ill, despite her old age, she still kept her grandchild so that her daughter could work for money.
"Now Mrs. Thuoc is bedridden, her daughter is on duty 24/7, it's a pity. My family sometimes also supports a little rice, fish, meat, I hope everyone will join hands to help make the family less miserable," Ms. Hue added.
Ms. Huynh Thi Hong Tuyet - Secretary, Head of the People's Committee of Long Hiep Hamlet - said that Ms. Thuoc's family is in a particularly difficult situation.
In the hamlet, regularly mobilize and prioritize gifts for the family, partly helping the mother, daughter and children with disabilities overcome difficulties.
The old lady's tragic situation was not only a burden on the shoulders of a filial son, but also an indescribable heartbroken in the midst of everyday life.
"Every golden heart from the strong and loyal army at this time is a small flame, warding off the darkness of illness, keeping a little warmth and a little weak hope for this poor family," Ms. Tuyet said emotionally.
