Ms. Nguyen Thi Luan (65 years old), is a familiar face of Lieu Trang residential group, Tan Hung ward, Hai Phong city. Her husband died early, she has to take on the whole family alone. Her son works as a freelancer, her daughter-in-law works as a worker with low income, while she is being treated for thyroid cancer. Every day that passes, she has to balance between taking care of herself and taking care of her family.
The biggest difficulty now is that her 15-year-old granddaughter, her son's eldest grandson, is mentally retarded, unable to go to school, and his behavior is uncontrolled. All basic activities such as eating and going to the toilet require help. "Some days I called my granddaughter to the yard, gave her a cake, she could only say two words: "Please... it hurts" - Mrs. Luan choked up and recounted.

She also remembers when her daughter-in-law was pregnant, in the 7th month, her daughter-in-law had a fever, perhaps since then her granddaughter's health has not been normal. Now, while she herself is being treated for the disease, she still has to monitor every gesture of her granddaughter, from eating, hygiene to daily living needs, both physically hard and mentally anxious.
Her house is simple and old, the small garden is only enough to grow a few vegetable beds, the dilapidated kitchen. The items in the house are almost worthless, reflecting the struggling daily life. Ms. Luan said: "Every day I have to think, worry about my children, grandchildren, myself, I really don't know what tomorrow will be like.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Head of Lieu Trang TDP said: "Ms. Luan's family is one of the poor households in the neighborhood. She has gone through too many challenges, both taking care of her children and grandchildren, and fighting diseases. The community always wants to support, but conditions are still limited.
Neighbors often visit, send some food, medicine, or help her with daily activities. However, help only partially reduces the burden before her eyes. Mrs. Luan is still resilient, striving every day to take care of her granddaughter, every small action such as cleaning the house, cooking, or chatting with her granddaughter shows the immense love she has for her family.

Her life is a vivid proof of the difficulties that many elderly people who are sick and have to shoulder the burden of their families are experiencing. In that old house, between illness and deprivation, there is still humanity, sharing and even sparking hope.
Life may be difficult, but in her eyes, there is still determination and belief that one day, her grandson will receive care, love and opportunities to develop better.
