Ms. Dinh Thi Tho's family (village 8, Vinh Bao commune, Hai Phong) has a special situation when all 3 generations in the family are visually impaired. Ms. Tho herself is congenitally blind and has never seen light. 11 years ago, Ms. Tho gave birth to a son, Dinh Hai Nam.
Ms. Tho shared that Nam was born and was commented by his family as handsome, agile, and with bright eyes. Since having children, Ms. Tho's life began to have "light". Nam is the pride, hope, and "eyes" of his grandfather, mother and the whole family. Loving his grandfather and mother, Nam has been diligent, hardworking, obedient, and enthusiastic in helping everyone since childhood. At school, Nam also always tried to overcome family circumstances, strive to study, and was loved by teachers and friends.
Since having a child, Ms. Tho seemed to be given more motivation to try every day. However, the joy was short-lived, Ms. Tho still remembers vividly the 8th day of the first lunar month of the year At Ty, exactly one year ago, the day when Hai Nam gradually lost the light of her own child. "On the afternoon of the 8th, Nam went to the temple of Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem with his grandfather, and in the evening he still studied as usual. Until the next morning when he woke up, his child said he could no longer see everything around him, at that time, my heart felt choked up" - Ms. Tho choked up.
After that, Ms. Tho took Nam to the Children's Hospital and Hai Phong Eye Hospital for examination. After testing, doctors diagnosed Nam with increased white blood cells in the blood leading to complications, including vision complications. Up to now, Nam's right eye is completely blind, the other side has also gradually weakened, and is still trying to treat it to keep him able to see somewhat.
To maintain Nam's left eye, every 3 weeks, Nam has to go for treatment with a cost of about 6 million VND/time. Over the past year, Ms. Tho has been working to cover living expenses and running around everywhere to treat her child's illness. There are months when she does not have enough money for medicine for her child, making Ms. Tho feel remorseful. The biggest wish of the blind mother is to keep the light for her son, which is also the "light" of her life, so that Hai Nam can continue to go to school, integrate with friends, as her child always wished.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Lam Van Son, Head of Village 8, Vinh Bao commune, said that Ms. Dinh Thi Tho's family is a household with special circumstances in the area when all family members have eye disabilities. Although every month, Ms. Tho's family receives disability allowances and support from philanthropists, life is still difficult. As for Nam, he often has to go for eye treatment, which is costly.
We really hope that through the Golden Heart Fund of Labor, Ms. Tho and Nam's family will receive more attention and support so that they can have conditions for in-depth treatment, "save" their bright eyes so that their future will be somewhat less arduous and difficult. On the local side, we still pay close attention, visit and encourage the family to overcome difficulties and rise up in life. At the same time, we call for the community's joint efforts to support the family" - Mr. Son said.
