Mr. Ngo Quang Duc (born in 1990) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang (born in 1993), residing in Trang Da 2 residential group, Nong Tien ward, Tuyen Quang province, got married when they were only 19 years old. After that, the couple gave birth to their first daughter, now 13 years old.
Not long after giving birth to their first child, the family advised them to have a second child right away to "close the books" and then focus on doing business and stabilizing their lives. But from then on, the journey to find a child for the young couple lasted in vain. For 12 years of "getting pregnant" and then running treatment in many places but without results, Ms. Trang and her husband finally decided to perform in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Luck smiled when Ms. Trang became pregnant and gave birth to baby Ngo Kim Anh in April 2025. However, short-lived joy when the baby was just 1 month old was diagnosed with congenital gallbladder atrophy - a dangerous disease that requires early intervention.

At 1 month and 17 days old, the baby had to undergo Kasai surgery (liver-intestinal junction) to replace the blocked bile duct with a segment of the small intestine to drain bile. However, a miracle did not come to Kim Anh when the condition did not improve, the disease continued to progress severely, leading to end-stage cirrhosis.
Throughout her journey of fighting illness, Kim Anh's small body had to endure persistent pain, prolonged treatments and countless vein punctures all over her body.
Faced with the worsening condition of the disease, liver transplantation was the only way to save the baby's life. With no other choice, Ms. Trang decided to donate part of her liver to regain life for her child.

On March 14, a liver transplant surgery was performed at the National Children's Hospital (Hanoi). After many hours of stress, the surgery was successful. Currently, Ms. Trang's health has stabilized and she has been discharged from the hospital, while baby Kim Anh is still being monitored at the hospital.
Although the surgery was successful, the economic burden still weighed heavily on the young couple's shoulders. Ms. Trang is a contract kindergarten teacher, Mr. Duc works as a veterinarian in the locality, with a total income of less than 10 million VND per month. This income can be temporarily enough for family living, but the treatment costs for baby Kim Anh have lasted for a long time, causing the family to be exhausted.

But transplanting a liver for her child cannot be delayed, so Ms. Trang's family borrowed more than 500 million VND from the bank to have surgery to save her child. Choking back tears, Ms. Trang said: "The income of both husband and wife is less than 10 million VND per month, so the surgery cost is a huge burden. We live with my parents-in-law, we don't have our own house, so we have to ask my parents to help borrow money. Luckily, the liver transplant was successful, but we don't know when we will be able to pay off that debt. After many years of having children, now with this additional burden, we are really stuck...".
