Since she was just over 2 years old, Hoang Minh Ky (Chieng Sinh ward, Son La) has no longer lived with her mother. According to relatives, her mother left when Ky was young and has not returned for many years.
In 2019, Ky's father passed away after a period of serious illness. Since then, he has lived with his 80-year-old grandmother. Old age, limited health, inability to work and no pension, she only grew a few more vegetables to sell, along with a pension for the elderly to cover the lives of the two grandmother and grandchild.
In 2021, Ms. Hoang Thi Ly - uncle and older sister of Ky's father welcomed her to take care of him. Since then, Ky has lived with her uncle's family. However, Ms. Ly's family is not well-off either, the main source of income is gardening and hired labor, while she still has two young children.
I'm just helping my grandmother, because my situation is also difficult, I don't have a house yet, and I have young children, and my family is just farming," Ms. Ly shared.
Carrying one more grandchild while the family's economy was already struggling, daily expenses became a concern. On days when income was interrupted, the family's meals also became meager.
Everything is difficult because income is not enough for expenses. The biggest worry is rent. When sick, without income, grandmother and grandchildren only eat vegetables and porridge," Ms. Ly said.
Lacking material things, Ky also had to be independent in daily life early. Every morning, when adults go to work, she walks to school by herself. After school, Ky walks home by herself, cooking rice for the family.
Ky's studies are still maintained, but his learning conditions are still very lacking. At times, he did not have books and had to borrow from friends to study.

When mentioning his parents, he often shed tears because he missed and felt sorry for himself. What I am most worried about is that the family circumstances may prevent Ky from continuing to go to school in the near future," Ms. Ly choked up.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Tran Thi Tuyet Mai - Principal of Chieng Sinh Secondary School (Son La), where Ky is studying, said that her family is currently in great difficulty, and the school also regularly cares for and supports her as much as possible.
The school really hopes that Ky will receive help from the community so that he can continue to go to school, because studying is the path for him to have a stable job and take care of himself later," the principal emphasized.
