As Lao Dong newspaper reported, on the night of March 29, while fishing on the Chiem Hoa hydropower lake, the small boat of Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan and Ms. Hoang Thi Hue's family (Ban Dan village, Yen Lap commune, Tuyen Quang province) suddenly capsized due to a large storm.
At the time of capsizing, there was also Nguyen Tuan Dat (born 2012), son of Mr. Tuan and Ms. Hue, on the boat. Fortunately, Dat swam ashore but Mr. Tuan and Ms. Hue died.
Since then, Nguyen Tuan Dat and his younger sister Nguyen Thi Thanh Kieu (born 2018) have become orphans of both parents. The only support for the two children is now their grandmother, who is over 70 years old.
More worryingly, Dat is not agile, his studies and activities are not as good as normal children. The children's families are in difficult circumstances, in 2025 they just moved out of dangerous areas due to storms and floods, and life is still very deprived.
Looking at the portraits of her unfortunate son and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Trinh Thi Noi, the grandmother of the two grandchildren, is even more worried as her health is getting weaker and her age is getting older, only afraid of not having enough strength to support her two young grandchildren.
It hurts so much... I lost my child, in just one night my two grandchildren lost both father and mother. They are too young, I don't know how great this loss is, their future is still long, and I don't know what will happen next," Mrs. Noi choked up.
According to the Yen Lap Commune Women's Union, immediately after the loss of the family of the 2 children, local authorities and mass organizations are supporting the family to prepare for the funeral and stabilize their initial life.
However, in the long term, the two children really need the joint help of the community to have conditions to continue going to school," said Ms. Do Thi Hang - Chairwoman of the Yen Lap Commune Women's Union.
