Widespread rain has caused flooding and water stagnation in some areas of Hanoi City. Hanoi Drainage One Member Limited Liability Company has arranged on-duty forces, operating key pumping stations to lower the water level on the system, increasing drainage capacity.
According to records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters in the area of alley 253 Nguyen Van Linh street, alley 95 Viet Hung is being flooded 40cm to 50cm deep, making it difficult for vehicles to move.
In the Aeon Mall Long Bien area, about 10 workers of Hanoi Drainage Company were present to drain water for the area, many cars stalled, traffic jams.
Also according to records in some areas considered "black spots" of flooding in the past such as Pham Hung - Duong Dinh Nghe - Me Tri intersection, Le Duc Tho, Dong Me... there is no longer flooding. Some areas are being fenced off for light flooding construction, vehicles are moving normally.
According to Mr. Pham Ngoc Toan - Deputy General Director of Hanoi Drainage Co., Ltd., currently widespread rain is appearing in the city. The cause is determined to be the influence of the intertropical convergence zone connected to the weakened low pressure area from the tropical depression tending to gradually raise its axis to the North, combined with the southwest edge of the weakened continental high pressure.
By 6 am on September 15, through inspection in areas managed by the unit, some flooded and stagnant points appeared.
The recorded locations include Dam Quang Trung, Co Linh, Vinh Hung streets; Thang Long Avenue at tunnel 4 - An Khanh Bridge, tunnel 5, tunnel 6 and tunnel 9+656 area; National Highway 6 section of Yen Nghia Residential Group 1+4 and Quyet Thang street.

Drainage gates and pumping stations are operated according to procedures, and measures are implemented to ensure traffic safety in low-lying areas.
The unit said that before the rain occurred, functional forces had monitored weather developments, rainfall and water levels on drainage systems, rivers, and regulating lakes. The operating status of key works, pumping stations, spillway gates and key locations were also reviewed.
Forces, vehicles and equipment are arranged to be on duty at locations at risk of flooding. Roads, water intake gates, and water intake stations are inspected, cleaned, and the flow is cleared to ensure drainage capacity when it rains heavily.
During the rain, on-duty forces were deployed outside the scene, strengthening inspections of key routes and areas. Workers collect garbage at collection stations and water inlets to limit congestion and affect drainage capacity.
Notably, many key pumping stations are operating to lower the water level on the system. At Yen So pumping station, all 20/20 pumps are operating. Bac Thang Long - Van Tri pumping station operates 2/4 pumps; Co Nhue 2 operates 4/4 pumps; Dong Bong 1 operates 3/3 pumps.
In addition, Cau chui pumping station operates 2/4 engines; Bac Duong railway underpass pumping station operates 2/2 engines; Tai Trau lake pumping station operates 2/2 engines.
The operation of pumping stations is carried out according to the actual situation and in accordance with procedures, focusing on lowering the water level on the system, creating capacity and favorable conditions for drainage.
Hanoi Drainage One Member Limited Liability Company said it will continue to coordinate with relevant units to monitor rain developments, water levels and drainage capacity of the system. When necessary, operating plans for the project will be unified and implemented in accordance with the actual situation.
Until 6 am on September 15, rain continued in the city. The Company's forces and vehicles continued to be on duty, operating key pumping stations according to procedures, and at the same time cleaning and clearing the flow in key areas.
