Funeral support regime upon death for retired military officers

Article 7, Decree 343/2025/ND-CP (effective from January 1, 2026), stipulates the funeral support regime when passing away as follows:

1. The regime of supporting the organization of funerals and tomb construction for retired and deceased army officers who are eligible for state-level funerals and high-level funerals is implemented according to current legal regulations.

2. Providing financial support for agencies and units in charge of organizing funerals or participating in the Funeral Organizing Committee as prescribed by the Ministry of National Defense for retired Army officers who die with military ranks from the rank of Colonel or below and are not eligible for funerals as prescribed in Clause 1 of this Article, as follows:

a) For agencies and units in charge of organizing funerals

Units under the Ministry of National Defense are supported 10 times the base salary level;

Agencies at the Department level and equivalents directly under the Ministry of National Defense, General Staff, General Department of Politics and General Departments are supported by 08 times the base salary level;

Agencies and units at the Division level, the Provincial Military Command and equivalents are supported by 05 times the base salary level;

The remaining agencies and units are supported 03 times the base salary level;

Funds to support agencies and units in charge of organizing funerals are specified at this point to purchase worship items, decorate ceremonies, wreaths, funerals and pay for funeral services.

b) For agencies and units assigned to participate in the Funeral Organizing Committee, they are supported with 01 times the base salary; this funding is used to buy wreaths, funerals and offerings according to local customs and habits.

c) Every year, the agency or unit in charge of organizing the funeral or assigned to participate in the Funeral Organizing Committee is liquidated and finalized for actual expenditure but does not exceed the level of support specified in points a and b of this clause.

Thus, from January 1, 2026, the funeral support regime upon death for retired military officers is stipulated as above.
