Clause 4, Article 65 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 (effective from January 1, 2025) stipulates the duties of traffic police when conducting patrols and controls, including:
a) Observe and grasp the situation of people and vehicles participating in road traffic; the situation of order and safety of road traffic; security and order on road traffic routes;
b) Implement the provisions at Point b and Point c, Clause 1 of this Article;
c) Instruct, propagate and mobilize road traffic participants to comply with laws on road traffic order and safety;
d) Assist and support people and vehicles participating in road traffic when necessary;
d) Command and control road traffic;
e) Investigate and resolve road traffic accidents according to the provisions of law;
g) Fight against and prevent crimes on road traffic routes, ensure security and order according to the provisions of law; participate in preventing and combating terrorism, riots, epidemics, natural disasters, fires; participate in search and rescue;
h) Detecting inadequacies in roads, road traffic organization, causes leading to disorder and loss of road traffic safety, notifying competent authorities or reporting to competent authorities to recommend remedial measures to competent authorities;
i) Coordinate with road management agencies to detect and prevent violations of legal provisions on protection of road works and road safety corridors;
k) Other tasks as prescribed by the Law on People's Public Security and other relevant legal provisions.
Thus, the duties of traffic police when patrolling and controlling road traffic are prescribed as above.
