On June 19, information from leaders of Quang Tri Ward People's Committee (Quang Tri province), Secretary of Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Phuong had a working session with the Standing Committee of Party Committees of wards, communes and special economic zones in the south of the province.
After the working session, on June 15, there was a notice of conclusion from the Provincial Party Secretary assigning the Provincial People's Committee to urgently direct the completion of legal procedures to decentralize the management of the special national relic Quang Tri Citadel to the Quang Tri Ward People's Committee, requesting immediate completion in the third quarter of 2026. Currently, this special historical relic is under the management authority of the Quang Tri Museum (Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the province).
In parallel with completing procedures to hand over the management of the special national relic Quang Tri Citadel, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province is assigned to study solutions to effectively promote the cultural, historical and landscape values of the two banks of the Thach Han River associated with tourism and service development; and at the same time consider investing in architectural and landscape highlights in accordance with local planning.
The conclusion notice requests Quang Tri ward to focus on strongly developing trade, services and tourism on the basis of maximizing the value of the Citadel relic; encouraging socialization in the management and exploitation of historical relics to create more new products and services to attract tourists.
In addition, Quang Tri ward must proactively develop plans to arrange and transfer redundant cadres and civil servants after arranging administrative units to ensure organizational stability; attach importance to urban environmental protection towards building a civilized, green, clean, and beautiful city.
Quang Tri Ancient Citadel is one of the particularly important historical relics of the country, ranked as a special national relic in 2013. This relic is associated with the 81-day and night battle to protect the Ancient Citadel in 1972, where thousands of soldiers bravely sacrificed. Today, this place is a red address for revolutionary tradition education, a spiritual destination, gratitude to heroic martyrs, attracting many tourists from all over the country every year.
