The handover ceremony of tasks to the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism took place on the afternoon of April 9.

The handover ceremony of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) took place between former Member of the Party Central Committee, former Minister of MCST Nguyen Van Hung and Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of MCST Lam Thi Phuong Thanh.

On April 8, at the first session, the 16th National Assembly approved the appointment of Ms. Lam Thi Phuong Thanh to the position of Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the 2026-2031 term.

Before holding the position of Minister, Ms. Lam Thi Phuong Thanh was appointed Standing Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism on December 31, 2025.

On January 22, 2026, at the 14th National Party Congress, Ms. Lam Thi Phuong Thanh was elected as a member of the 14th Party Central Committee, term 2026-2031.

Member of the Party Central Committee - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee - Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Lam Thi Phuong Thanh was born on July 26, 1967; hometown: Ninh Binh province.

Before becoming a member of the 14th Party Central Committee, Minister Lam Thi Phuong Thanh was a member of the 12th and 13th Party Central Committees. She has a degree in political theory: Bachelor of Science; professional qualifications: Master of Law, Bachelor of History.

She grew up from Youth Union work, attached for many years to the youth and student movement. During this process, she successively held the positions of Secretary of the Central Youth Union, Standing Vice Chairman of the Central Vietnam Student Association, Head of the School Youth Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Student Association, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Central Youth Union agency.

From the field of youth, she switched to propaganda work, having 6 years of holding the position of Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department (now the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department). In December 2017, she was assigned to be Secretary of the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee and held this position for two terms, until June 2021.

In July 2021, the Politburo transferred Ms. Lam Thi Phuong Thanh to hold the position of Deputy Chief of the Central Party Office.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is an agency of the Government, performing state management of culture, family, sports, tourism, press, radio, television, news agencies, publishing, printing, distribution, electronic information, grassroots information and foreign information nationwide.
