After only 5 days of release, the revenue of the movie "The Four Guardians" by Tran Thanh reached 200 billion VND - becoming the fastest Vietnamese movie to reach this revenue of all time.
On February 2 alone, "The Four Guardians" held the record with nearly 6,000 screenings, nearly 400,000 tickets sold and revenue of about 40 billion VND. With the current performance, Tran Thanh's film is expected to reach 500 - 600 billion VND before leaving theaters.
"The Four Guardians" continues to break all box office records for Vietnamese films shown in theaters. It is predicted that the film could surpass the revenue of "Mai".
On his personal page, Tran Thanh and his crew continuously update the admirable achievements that the film has brought. Among them, other notable achievements include the film surpassing the 100 billion VND mark the fastest in history, after less than 3 days of release; the film holds the record for the number of screenings per day in Vietnamese cinema with more than 6,000 screenings or the Vietnamese film with the highest opening day revenue record of all time... However, "The Four Guardians" has been embroiled in many controversies about the content and quality of the film. Many opinions say that this project is a step backwards for Tran Thanh compared to the films "Mai" or "Bo Gia", "Nha Ba Nu".
After the film was released and had many achievements mixed with controversies from the audience, Tran Thanh said: “After bringing "The Four Guardians" to the audience, I am ready to receive all feedback and suggestions from the audience because that is each person's own taste in watching movies. In my personal opinion, I believe that "The Four Guardians" is not a bad film or a superficial film, and no matter what the opinion is, it is a valuable experience for me to change, improve, and have more opportunities to continue to conquer the audience with the next projects."
When interviewed by a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper about his ambitions in the "Four Guardians" as well as other projects, he affirmed that he wanted to reach the 1,000 billion VND milestone.
"I am confident that I can do it. Records are meant to be broken. At first, I never thought I could make the movie "Bo Gia" earn 400 billion VND, but in the end, I still did it.
When I made "Mrs. Nu's House", I thought it couldn't surpass the revenue of "The Godfather", because I made this film in a hurry compared to "The Godfather". In the end, this project was successful and surpassed "The Godfather".
When I made "Mai", I was afraid that a movie that was too sad would not be suitable for Tet. But as a result, "Mai" still broke the record of "Nha Ba Nu".
Why don't I have the right to believe that I can make Vietnam's first trillion-dollar film? I want to do this."
