The playground for street vendors is shrinking
Cai Luong was once an art form that many artists pursued and were passionate about. However, up to now, the playing field for this sport is gradually narrowing. Programs such as Golden Rice, Golden Ring... are gradually disappearing or not creating a huge media effect.
After a hiatus, the playground "Tao thuong cai luong Tran Huu Trang" has made efforts to return, gathering hundreds of cai luong artists to compete in all three regions, contributing to continuing to spread cai luong in the cultural and artistic life of the country. At a time when there are not many playgrounds for cai luong, "Tao luong cai Tran Huu Trang" is considered a rare opportunity for artists who love cai luong to satisfy their passion.
Previously, another playground that was quite prominent when aired on television in 2024 was Cai Luong Academy organized by People's Artist Bach Tuyet and her colleagues.
Cai Luong Academy was built in the form of an academy with the director being Peoples Artist Bach Tuyet, along with artists Chau Thanh, Thanh Hang and teacher - musician, Peoples Artist Thanh Hai. The first 3 episodes are the selection of contestants with the competition of elective performances and challenges from the program (performing excerpts with a guest artist or randomly drawing lots). After that, 4 judges including: People's Artist Bach Tuyet, People's Artist Thanh Hai, Chau Thanh, Thanh Hang pressed the button to select the contestants.
In the first season, Cai Luong Academy showed some difference compared to previous game shows with cai Luong elements (such as Duong Nho Chau An Cuu, Tam Nam Trang Viet, Idol Artist...). If other game shows require contestants to have "capital to play around" in terms of the ability to sing and perform, "Chang Luong Academy" is not afraid of artists who are "in white paper".
After the first season, the program found 5 co-champion artists including Bien Thuy, Tu Tri, Quach Phu Thanh, Hung Vuong and Melany Tran. However, after leaving this playground, the young cai luong artists have not left much of an impression on the audience. Currently, season 2 of the show has not been launched by the producer.
Young people promote Cai Luong
Although the playground for the raincoats is lacking, there are still many positive signals when many veteran artists and young artists have known how to promote the raincoats in a more modern way, approaching many young audiences to keep the appeal of this traditional art form.
Recently, the mashup "Tuy am - Luc Hai Vi Vuong" performed by Phuong My Chi and Kha Lau in the semi-final of 1 Sing! Asia has entered the YouTube Trending list. The performance was compared by the audience as a space for cultural exchange: Phuong My Chi incorporated the cai luong play "The Me Linh Drum" while Kha Lau performed a play.
Not only did it cause a fever on social networks, the performance also made the judges Sing! Asia has repeatedly expressed her excitement. Famous singer To Huu Bang commented that the performance was complete in both appearance and music. At the end of the competition, Phuong My Chi and Kha Lau ranked 3rd on the competition night with 190.6 points and advanced straight to the second semi-final round.
The performance of Phuong My Chi and Kha Lau caused a storm because Cai Luong and Hai Tra are two independent and difficult subjects to combine. The fact that the Vietnamese female singer brought promotional covers to international friends has created a positive effect, helping to spread the traditional art form.
Remember not long ago, People's Artist Bach Tuyet collaborated with singer Orange and rapper Jaysonlei in the song "Rao rot Viet Nam" produced by producer Mew Amazing. This combination caused a fever among young people when Ca Hoong collaborated with modern music genres.
People's Artist Bach Tuyet said she participated in this project because she always wanted to develop and maintain the canal - one of the important art forms expressing the identity and culture of Vietnam.
People's Artist Bach Tuyet also collaborated with rapper Wowy in the song "The last light". The surprise was that the unique combination of mixing pop, rap, world music and cai luong brought many new things to the song.
Cooperating with young artists is something I always want to bring to many new audiences in an era-friendly way, People's Artist Bach Tuyet confided.
