Before the movie "When the Phone Rings" received the attention it has now, Chae Soo Bin was the center of criticism for her inconsistent expressions and awkward acting skills when taking on the role of Hong Hee Joo - a sign language interpreter who lost the ability to speak after a childhood accident.
Talking about this, the actress who has been acting for 12 years honestly said: "Every day I cry until I can't sleep. That makes me very sad. I usually don't care much when others talk about my appearance, but when I am commented on my acting, I find it difficult and can't stop thinking about those things.
Even when I watch myself on screen, I find things that I am not satisfied with and that makes me even sadder. There are days when I can't sleep and have to go to the set exhausted.
Yoo Yeon Seok encouraged me a lot and said, "As time goes on, the audience will gradually love the character Hee Joo more." His sharing with the people around me made me feel more confident.
I told myself, 'Don't give up. I can do better.' That's how I got through the difficult times."
Regarding her relationship with co-star Yoo Yeon Seok, the actress said that when they first started filming, they weren't too close even though they were in the same company.
But after a while working together, both became more comfortable and easily shared their worries and thoughts with each other.
"When filming, I often have to focus on my role and don't have much time to pay attention to my surroundings.
But seeing the way Yoo Yeon Seok cares and looks after everyone, I feel like I need to learn more from him. He's really great. I think without him, the movie probably wouldn't have been able to go so smoothly."
The actress also expressed her gratitude for the audience's love for her and her senior's chemistry and expressed her wish that the two would date in real life. "Hearing those words really makes me feel happy and grateful. I often have the same feeling when watching foreign films, like: 'I wish these two would date in real life.' I think it's a similar feeling, and I really appreciate it."
