After a period of release, the movie "Chi Dau" starring Hong Dao, Viet Huong, and Ngoc Trinh earned more than 93 billion VND, ranking second in the Vietnamese theater market revenue in the first week of the new year 2025.
According to data from Box Office Vietnam, director Khuong Ngoc’s film earned 1-2 billion VND per day in the last three days. This is also director Khuong Ngoc’s best-performing film.
The film's script explores the relationship between sister-in-law and brother-in-law, almost encapsulating the story in one day and night of a death anniversary at an old house in a coastal countryside.
The women in the family are not on good terms with each other, gradually revealing their grudges against each other. From there, the things they want to bury are gradually revealed. The story is interwoven with satirical comedy elements, the atmosphere of the film is sometimes tense but not tragic.
According to many film experts, at the current ticket sales rate, the movie "Sister-in-law" will soon reach the 100 billion VND mark. This could be the first Vietnamese movie in 2025 to reach this figure.
Meanwhile, the movie "Kaleidoscope" has seen a sharp decline in revenue.
From a revenue of several hundred million VND in a day, the film is now earning less than 100 million VND. On January 5, the film only earned 82 million VND (as of the afternoon of January 5). Currently, the number of screenings of "Kaleidoscope" has decreased sharply. From more than 1,000 screenings per day, it has decreased to more than 200 screenings per day.
The movie "Kaleidoscope" has only earned 5.6 billion VND. With the current ticket sales situation, the movie is likely to leave theaters with only 6 - 7 billion VND. And with this number, the "Kaleidoscope" crew is likely to suffer heavy losses. Because according to estimates, the "Kaleidoscope" crew can spend about 20 - 30 billion VND to carry out this project.
According to the division in cinemas, usually a project with an investment of 20 billion VND must reach at least 40 billion VND to break even.
