Dien Bien Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just announced the planning for preservation, restoration, and recovery of the Dien Bien Phu Special National Historical Relic Battlefield with a total area of 358 ha.
In which, the protected area of the relic (about 281 ha) and the expanded area to protect the landscape and serve tourism (about 77 ha).
In addition to preserving 46 component relics, the plan also proposes to add 4 relic points. The planning scope is 10 communes and wards with component relics belonging to the Dien Bien Phu Special National Historical Relic.
With the orientation of tourism and socio-economic development, the plan not only preserves but also renews this relic complex through 3 spaces to recreate history.

The space "Old Battlefield" in the center of Dien Bien province, this is a place to recount the story of courage, sacrifice and the contrast between war and peace.
This area is approached by both the "Old Battlefield Tourist Area" and an urban park.
The planning is based on the characteristic of alternating between relics (symbolizing war) and urbanization (symbolizing peace) to highlight the idea of the contrast between war and peace.
The highlight is the formation of the "Green Connection Chain" along the Nam Rom River and Muong Thanh field to preserve the space that has not been urbanized. The revival is also shown through the Noong Nhai event memorial works.
The space "Song of Victory" in the Muong Phang area is a story about the intelligence and military talent of the Vietnamese nation.
This space honors the intelligence and military strategic talent of our soldiers. The tourism model here will shift to experiencing real scenery and educating history.
Notably, the plan proposes to study the formation of a cable car line directly connected to the relic of the Campaign Observatory, along with the construction of an event square to honor the stature of the victory.
The space of the "Legendary Road" is an imprint in the Pha Din pass area. The story of military-civilian solidarity, the spirit of overcoming difficulties of the Vietnamese nation, with the symbol "man-made cars defeat airplanes".
This is not only a historical stop but also a place to organize outdoor activities, running races, walking, cycling and attract investment in eco-tourism areas associated with relics.
Towards sustainable development
According to Mr. Tran Hai Ha - Acting Director of Dien Bien Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, planning is an important legal basis for the Department to continue to carry out conservation, restoration, and embellishment work.
In the coming time, the Department will focus on advising and implementing key projects that have a major impact on contributing to promoting socio-economic and tourism development of the province.

Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Phu said: "After having planning, it is necessary to deploy zoning, marker planting, site clearance and issuance of land use right certificates.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Phu also hopes that the authorities at all levels and especially the consensus and involvement of the people when implementing projects. Preserving relics is preserving them for posterity.
Also according to Mr. Phu, the province will continue to restore and invest in building the Temple of Saint Tran to further promote the value of the Dien Bien Phu National Relic. All items are not only to show gratitude and educate about ideal traditions but also directly create livelihoods and increase income for people.
At the same time, the province is studying mechanisms and policies to attract socialized investment. Projects with capital recovery capacity, tour routes connecting tourism and human resource training programs will be prioritized.
