On March 24, the Dien Bien Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized the announcement of the Plan for preservation, restoration, and recovery of the Dien Bien Phu Special National Historical Relic.
According to the decision, the plan has a total area of 358 ha. In which, the relic protection area (about 281 ha) and the expansion area to protect the landscape and serve tourism (about 77 ha).
In addition to preserving 46 component relics, the plan also proposes to add 4 relics: Command Headquarters of Division 308, Command Headquarters of Regiment 36, Doi Xanh and Command Headquarters of Division 316.
The planning scope is 10 communes and wards with component relics belonging to the Dien Bien Phu Special National Historical Relic Battlefield, including: Dien Bien Phu, Muong Thanh, Muong Phang, Muong Pon, Thanh Nua, Thanh Yen, Thanh An, Quai To, Tuan Giao and Bung Lao.

The planning aims to fully identify the outstanding value of the Dien Bien Phu Special National Historical Relic; preserve, restore, and gradually restore to preserve the relic for the long term.
Along with that, promoting the value of relics associated with sustainable tourism development, forming a unique tourism brand of Dien Bien.
The plan has a implementation period from 2026 to 2035, with a vision to 2050.
In the period 2025-2035, zoning and planting boundary markers to protect relics; clearing works and households in the protected area; preserving, repairing, and restoring relics; promoting the value of relics.
Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh signed Decision No. 135 (January 19, 2026) approving the Planning for preservation, repair, and restoration of the Special National Historical Relic Dien Bien Phu Battlefield.
