"The Great Phoenix Fights" tells the story of Duong Lang (Vuong Hac De) - a real estate agent who accidentally time-travels to the world of Dai Phung after participating in a crime-solving game as Hua That An.
However, soon after, That An had to face a major incident, being arrested and imprisoned due to being involved in a case of missing silver from the royal court. To survive, he used the content from modern crime investigation books as well as knowledge of mathematics, physics, and chemistry to expose the case and clear his name.
Although introduced by Tencent as an S+ level project (the highest investment level the platform uses to produce films), with content not inferior to "Qing Yu Nian", however, as soon as it was aired on the evening of December 28, "Dai Phung Da Canh Nhan" received a series of negative responses, despite recording 42 advertisements from 11 brands, with a total duration of 406 seconds in the first 4 episodes.
According to the media, the first day's views accounted for 6.3% (14.73 million) - equal to the views of the movie "Rem ngoc chau sa" (played by Trieu Lo Tu), so it is highly likely that "Dai phuong da canh nhan" will not be able to achieve high results, over 50 million views as initially expected.
The main reason is because the movie had a series of flaws from the beginning. Among them, the male lead Vuong Hac De is a big minus point.
Most people believe that, in order to fit the role, the screenwriter was willing to change the original, letting Xu Qi An change his career from a police officer to someone who dreamed of becoming a police officer but failed the exam, and became a real estate agent. He even had his household registration transferred to Sichuan (China) with a typical regional accent.
But that favor could not save Vuong Hac De because his acting ability was still limited. His exaggerated acting and difficult-to-understand words made viewers feel uncomfortable every time the male lead appeared.
The audience thinks that, in order to continue acting, Vuong Hac De should relearn Mandarin, or if necessary, he should use dubbing instead of the original voice as he is now.
Meanwhile, Chinese media emphasized that not only Vuong Hac De's acting but also the other actors' performance did not meet requirements.
The film's script, when adapted, also lost the appeal of the original novel. In the first four episodes, the film focused on humorous details to create excitement, but because of overuse, it had the opposite effect.
The atmosphere of “The Great Phoenix Strikes the Human” is also considered to be lacking in seriousness, many details are handled hastily, making it difficult to create a sense of authenticity for the audience. For example, the whole family is about to be beheaded, but the dialogue and the actors’ acting seem to be teasing the audience. The fact that the producer celebrated too early and the content was not worthy of the massive promotional campaign were also factors that made "Dai Phung Da Canh Nhan" lose sympathy, so the upcoming journey of the film is predicted to be difficult to reverse the situation.
