On the afternoon of December 26, the movie "Squid Game" released part 2, continuing the story of Seong Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) - who gave up going to America to pursue his own goals related to the deadly game he won in part 1.
As soon as it was officially released, part 2 of the famous survival series received a lot of attention. The film was praised for its deeper exploration of human nature, many thrilling action scenes, the addition of a voting system and the appearance of new energy from Im Siwan, Kang Ha Neul...
However, the film still received some mixed opinions because of its somewhat slow pace, the plot focused too much on Gi Hun's motives. Along with that, the fact that the number of games is less than the first part is disappointing. Daum's review said that the group games - where survival depends on teamwork - although bringing some thrilling moments, overall the pace lacked excitement.
Another minus point of “Squid Game 2” is T.O.P’s performance as Thanos, a rapper involved in a money scam. Initially, the former Big Bang member’s role was revealed to have little “room” to act, however, due to his frequent appearances and awkward acting, his awkward rap scenes made viewers feel uncomfortable.
Previously, T.O.P's casting in the film had also caused a lot of controversy, especially considering his past legal issues. Although director Hwang Dong Hyuk tried to defend the singer, saying that he was brave to accept the role, the wave of criticism did not stop.
In addition, the participation of No Eul (Park Gyu Young) - a fugitive feels similar to the character Sae Byeok in part 1. Meanwhile, Gong Yoo's character, although having more story, is mainly explanatory dialogue.
According to Korea Heard, the ending of “Squid Game 2” with many unanswered questions is a way to reveal part 3, which will be released in mid-2025. However, whether director Hwang Dong Hyuk will continue to win popularity when telling the story of human resilience amidst doubts and mysterious dark forces is still unknown.
