Tourists flock to the main festival, a golden opportunity for the capital's tourism industry

Hanoi became a vibrant destination on the occasion of National Day 2.9 when the number of guests increased dramatically, many hotels were full, opening up golden opportunities for the capital's tourism industry.

The capital Hanoi is ready for a series of unprecedented major events to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2. Hanoi tourism is entering a golden time to accelerate, both in terms of number of visitors and quality of experiences. New tourism products are not only a highlight to attract tourists, but also the key to enhancing the position of the capital's destination in the national and regional tourism value chain.

On the occasion of the A80 grand festival, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam (77 years old, in Ho Chi Minh City) decided to book a flight to Hanoi to visit famous tourist destinations.

Ms. Tam is originally from Hanoi but has been in Ho Chi Minh City for nearly 50 years. This U80 woman misses the atmosphere of Hanoi's streets and wants to visit relatives. Ms. Tam said: "I have seen Hanoi at its most beautiful, on the most special occasion and that is a memory that I will always remember".

The fever of hotel bookings is happening throughout the capital, in which hotels and motels in central areas are now "uses up" rooms. Most hotels around Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter have announced that they are out of rooms for the period from August 31 to September 2, 2025. Hanoi residents even booked hotels and homestays to watch the parade.

Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Ngo Dai Dong - Chairman of the Board of Members of Vietnam Trade Union Hotel - said that this year's 80th National Day celebration is an opportunity for Hanoi tourism industry to attract visitors, creating momentum for tourism development in the capital.

According to Mr. Dong, this year's September 2 holiday is a "golden" opportunity for the travel industry to reposition Hanoi as a national cultural and historical tourism center. Instead of going abroad like in previous years, the number of visitors returning to Hanoi is very large, this is a good opportunity to stimulate tourism in the capital.

Hanoi tourism explodes on September 2

Information from the Hanoi Department of Tourism said that the growth rate of hotel bookings during this year's holiday reached 40-50% compared to the same period last year, especially at 3-star hotels or higher in the Old Quarter. The room occupancy rate at many establishments reached 80-95%, some hotels were "rented rooms" during peak days from August 30 to September 3.

According to a survey by Lao Dong Newspaper, many accommodation facilities have been fully booked for the A80 holiday since the end of August. The A25 hotel chain, with 40 locations across the city, recorded an occupancy rate of over 90%, with only vacant rooms at some branches far from the center such as My Dinh or Cau Giay.

In the high-end segment, many large hotels also recorded record capacity. Pullman Hanoi Hotel with 237 rooms was booked from the night of August 30 to September 2, with prices ranging from about VND 2.8-3.2 million/night. Pan Pacific Hanoi Hotel with 328 rooms currently has about 73% of bookings, and is expected to quickly reach 80-90% during the holiday.

Hanoi tourism also put into operation high-quality trains: Sjourney and Hoa Phuong Do (Hanoi - Hai Phong culinary tours), the tourist train named "The Year of the Gate" starting from August 19, 2025. Hanoi will organize the Hanoi Drink Festival 2025 from August 29 to September 2 at Thong Nhat Park, providing a space to enjoy typical drinks, contributing to promoting the quintessence of the capital's cuisine and drinks.

Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism - Ms. Dang Huong Giang affirmed that the capacity to receive and commit to stabilizing service prices, especially in the accommodation segment: "For accommodation establishments, we have a plan to upgrade facilities, maximize the number of rooms to serve guests. In particular, there is no price increase but there are also preferential policies. Hanoi is ready to welcome guests with backup plans, including mobilizing people in the capital to support guests staying or renting rooms at reasonable prices to show hospitality".

The September 2 holiday with strong growth in hotels, transportation, travel and entertainment has created a boost for Hanoi tourism, while opening up the prospect of peak year-end revenue.

Joining the atmosphere of welcoming the September 2 festival, Hanoi organized many cultural, artistic activities, exhibitions and special performances to serve the people and tourists. A series of outstanding events took place throughout August and early September such as: thematic exhibition at Hoa Lo Prison, Ho Chi Minh Museum, National History Museum, Thang Long Imperial Citadel...

Major art programs at August Revolution Square, My Dinh Stadium, Hoan Kiem Lake; beverage festival, ethnic cultural festival and a series of tourism promotion activities "Sac do Ba Dinh".

Many museums open for free, craft villages and tourist attractions organize free experiential activities. In addition, Hanoi launched 80 typical tourism products, ranging from heritage, ecology, resorts to night tourism, metro, waterway, to diversify options, enhance experiences and affirm the capital's tourism brand.
