On the afternoon of March 23, at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of painter Hoang Sung, the exhibition "Homeland Soul" introduced to the public 67 lacquer, silk and Do paper works by the late painter. The event takes viewers back to the art space stretching from the Northern Delta to the Northwest resistance roads, where the painter has devoted his youth.
Following the footsteps of the artist, soldier, the emotional flow of the exhibition slowly leads the public to leave the peaceful delta region to go up to the great forest. The highlight in this space is the mountainous theme, realistically depicted by Hoang Sung through images of the Foggy Phong Tho market, precarious houses on the mountainside or a quiet afternoon in Meo village.

Fully immersing himself in people's lives during the years of resistance has brought him a massive amount of sketches and practical experiences. With rustic traditional materials, the artist has preserved the complete tranquility and pristineness of the great forest.
It is these works imbued with national spirit, painting about his homeland and country, that have brought Hoang Sung's name to the world. In 1991, his paintings were first displayed at an ancient mansion located in the Louvre Square (Paris, France), becoming a bridge to bring the "soul of the countryside" of Vietnam to international friends. The beauty of the highlands or a night of Northern Ca Tru singing on silk and Do paper completely conquered the European public.
In just 5 days, his 20 works were all collected - a vivid proof of the cross-border vitality of Vietnamese art.

Besides international imprints, the exhibition space is also filled with the painting "Fatherland in Me". Belonging to the pioneering generation that laid the foundation for Vietnam's animation industry, Hoang Sung always carries in him a deep love for his homeland. This work is considered a convergence of revolutionary ideals, fully depicting the contemplation of a lifetime of artists diligently searching for the shape of the country.

On this occasion, representatives of the family of the late painter officially presented the lacquer work "Phung Market" to the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. This gesture makes an important contribution to the preservation and promotion of national artistic heritage and bringing valuable works closer to the public.
The exhibition "Homeland Soul" is open to visitors at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum (No. 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Hanoi) until March 31, 2026.
