The MV is not simply telling a love story through music, but also a journey to bring Vietnamese identity to the world in a modern and confident way.
Right in the first frames, the image of Lac bird appearing in the heart of downtown Los Angeles immediately attracted attention. Lac bird is inherently associated with Dong Son culture and the bronze drum symbol of ancient Vietnamese people. When placing this image in the context of modern Western urban areas, the crew created a strong visual collision between tradition and modernity.
This is also the consistent message of the MV: Vietnamese culture is not outside the international flow, but can be present on par, natural and trendy in the global space.
One of the most discussed details is the mask system inspired by Xuan Pha dance. Thanh Hoa's long-standing folk art form, which rarely appears in popular culture, is now recreated in a mysterious, cinematic style.
Son Tung M-TP's inclusion of Xuan Pha dance into the English MV shows how young artists are striving to "internationalize" folk materials.
In addition, a series of local cultural details are also interwoven throughout the MV such as dragon motifs from the Ly Dynasty, images of jade buffaloes or dance movements with folk sounds. In particular, the scene recreates the An Giang bull racing festival with the image of a "flying motorbike" evoking childhood memories of many generations of Vietnamese audiences.
This combination creates a feeling of both familiarity and novelty. Viewers can encounter very lifelike slices of Vietnamese culture, but they are retold in a modern, fast-paced and pop culture-rich visual language.
Not only stopping at folk elements, "Come My Way" also impresses with its exploitation of Vietnamese landscapes and architecture. Trang An appears majestic but does not feel like promoting ordinary tourism.
Meanwhile, the image of Khue Van Cac at Bai Dinh Pagoda that once appeared in the teaser is also continuing to be incorporated as a highly recognizable cultural symbol.
In addition to the visuals, "Come My Way" also marks Son Tung M-TP's clear international step when collaborating with rapper Tyga. The full use of English lyrics, combined with Afrobeats, hip-hop and reggaeton sounds, shows the male singer's ambition to expand the market after many years of operation.
However, the MV still caused many mixed opinions. Among them, Son Tung M-TP's English pronunciation or vocal handling caused much controversy.
Notably, the after-credit part with the image of a "worm" appearing fleetingly continues to create a wave of speculation on social networks. This detail is seen as an opening "twist", revealing the possibility that "Come My Way" is just the first piece in a larger art project that Son Tung M-TP is preparing.
