Miss Binh Phuong announces the results of the appellate trial of Duc Tien's heritage dispute

ĐÔNG DU |

After the appellate trial on August 11, in Ho Chi Minh City, Miss Binh Phuong said that the Trial Panel maintained the main contents of the first-instance judgment.

This means that the court continues to recognize the legal value of the will made by the late actor Duc Tien in the US.

Binh Phuong said that her and her child were assigned to receive houses and land belonging to the heritage block and had an obligation to pay Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh - the biological mother of late actor Duc Tien - the value enjoyed according to the judgment.

Because the two real estates were re-evaluated with a value higher than the preliminary phase by about 1 billion VND, the amount Ms. Anh received was also adjusted to about 3 billion VND. Previously, the new appraisal results determined the total value of the house in Ho Chi Minh City and land use rights in Long An (now Tay Ninh) to be more than 8.7 billion VND.

What Binh Phuong especially emphasized after the trial was that the will of the late actor Duc Tien continued to be recognized by the court.

The wife of the late actor said that this result has answered the debates and doubts that have appeared on social networks about the authenticity of the will. She also said that the appellate judgment takes effect from the date of pronouncement and that her side and the team of lawyers will carry out judgment enforcement procedures according to regulations.

Before the trial, the legality of the will is one of the issues that received much attention. The appraisal conclusion added to the file to determine that the signature on the will made in the US on August 9, 2023 was not signed by the same person with the signature samples named Duc Tien on some documents collected from 2009 to 2023.

However, Binh Phuong believes that the signature appraisal conclusion is only a source of evidence and needs to be evaluated in relation to the entire file. She affirmed that the will was made at a notary office in the US, with a notary and two witnesses directly witnessing the signing.

At the first-instance trial in October 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court determined that the will made in the US was legal. The inheritance block being considered includes a house in Hiep Binh ward, Ho Chi Minh City and a land plot in old Long An.

The first-instance court assigned Binh Phuong to receive the assets in kind and manage the inheritance of her daughter as a legal guardian. Ms. Anh enjoyed inheritance regardless of the content of the will, and was also recognized for her efforts in managing and overseeing the house. The total value Ms. Anh received at the time of the first-instance trial was more than 2 billion VND.

Actor Duc Tien passed away in the US in May 2024, at the age of 44. The inheritance dispute between his wife and biological mother was resolved in first instance in October 2025. After that, both sides appealed, requesting the appellate court to reconsider some contents of the judgment.
