Throughout her journey to participate in Miss International 2024, how did Miss Thanh Thuy position herself, how did she position her identity as a beauty queen from Vietnam among international beauties?
- I tried my best, from appearance to speech.
I always introduce myself as Miss Vietnam 2022. That is also an opportunity for the Miss International organizing committee to recognize and evaluate me. I always mention Vietnam, holding the Vietnamese flag with all my love and pride.
There are many images associated with the national flag that when I look back now, I still cry with emotion.
How will Thanh Thuy be different before and after becoming an international beauty queen?
- Before being crowned Miss International, I spent a lot of time improving myself. I considered this a great opportunity for me to bring pride to my country, becoming a milestone in my life.
I practiced very hard and enthusiastically. I only had 15 days to show myself, so I tried very hard. I have no regrets during the competition and feel proud to have brought the first Miss International crown to Vietnam.
People still ask, what is the real social value of a beauty queen? If Vietnam becomes a country with many internationally crowned beauty queens, what do you think we will gain the most?
- International beauty pageants are places of cultural exchange. Miss International is also an organization that values cultural connection and exchange between countries.
When I promoted Vietnam, other contestants wanted to come and explore. I gave coffee to people around me and they loved it. They said they would come to Vietnam to try that coffee again.
I believe that spreading national culture is a meaningful thing to do. And I also believe that when more people know about Vietnam, tourism will have a chance to grow.
Before Thanh Thuy, there were Vietnamese beauties crowned in international beauty contests such as Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc... What is the biggest change from these titles, what do you think this title creates?
- I see that when you have the title of Miss International, you shine brighter, create more value for the community, and do not hesitate to face difficulties to actively work. I see you as an example to follow, learn from, and improve yourself to create more positive values.
Thuy Tien, after being crowned Miss Grand International, is said to have changed her life because of the salary she received and became the representative image of many brands, in high demand for events. Is this the greatest value that the international crown brings?
- I think when crowned internationally, beauty queens will have more opportunities, but their mission and duties will also be heavier.
However, I think that the salary is not the greatest value that the international crown brings.
The greatest value that a beauty queen can bring to the community is positive contributions and practical activities. And when she can do that, she will be loved by the audience, because when we give love, we will receive love in return.
The public has many prejudices against beauty queens. Which prejudice do you fear the most and how will you break it?
- I am not afraid of prejudices, because I know I do not do negative things. Each beauty queen should be conscious of preserving her own image and the contest she represents, thereby avoiding unnecessary noise. I think if each beauty queen increasingly perfects herself, preserves and honors her beauty, prejudices will no longer exist.
There are many beauty queens who have broken stereotypes. That is an example for me to follow. Contestants have also invested more and have higher qualifications when participating in beauty contests. That is a positive sign.
Some people think that beauty queen is a profession because it can make a good profit, others say beauty queen is just a title. How does Thanh Thuy define the title of beauty queen?
-To me, beauty queen is a valuable title. That title brings value to the beauty queen herself, and brings value to the community, then the brand. I don't think it's a profession.
Thanh Thuy has 2 memorable coronation moments, 2 years ago she was Miss Vietnam and recently Miss International. How do you deal with big changes in your life?
- When I was crowned Miss Vietnam, I was very confused and didn't know what a beauty queen had to do, so I had more pressure than now. Although Miss International is an international contest, I am used to accompanying the community mission, I just need to develop and try to become better every day.
If you compare the two coronation times, what do you see as similarities and differences between Thanh Thuy then and now?
- I feel more confident now, more aware of creating more value for the community than before. After 2 years in office, I realized that I love the moment of seeing people's smiles and children being helped.
I wish I could contribute more, to see smiles on the lips of people around me.
