HYBE is suspected of trying to downplay NewJeans' achievements

NGỌC ANH |

Korean media reported that HYBE was suspected of trying to downplay the success of NewJeans from its subsidiary ADOR.

On September 25 (Korean time), CBS's "Kim Hyun Jung's News Show" aired a phone interview with reporter Jang Hyung Woo from Seoul Shinmun.

In the interview, Jang Hyung Woo said he wrote an article about HYBE's stock price while covering NewJeans' performance at Tokyo Dome on July 17.

He then received a request from HYBE to revise the article. He said that their attempt to distort and downplay the achievements of the artists in the NewJeans group was meaningless.

Reporter Jang Hyung Woo initially ignored the issue. However, after watching the live stream of NewJeans members, he changed his mind.

He revealed that although he had met countless PR directors, this was the first time he had heard someone say that an artist from their subsidiary was not successful or did not achieve the expected results (meaning he was referring to HYBE saying that NewJeans under their subsidiary ADOR was not successful).

Jang Hyung Woo said that HYBE initially claimed that NewJeans sold 1.02 million copies in Japan. But HYBE later changed its mind and emphasized that the phrase "in Japan" was inappropriate because sales came not only from Japan but from all over the world.

After that, Mr. Jang Hyung Woo added that HYBE thought that the sales were not as good as they actually were; the recording was not impressive...

In response to these allegations, HYBE released a statement to Kim Hyun Jung's News Show, stating, "We have been doing our best to promote ADOR, including NewJeans' album."
