On the evening of January 2, Ji Sung's new TV series - "The Judge Returns" (Vietnamese title: Judge Returns) premiered with a fairly good viewership despite the fierce competition from Lee Je Hoon's movie "Anonymous 3" - broadcast in the same time slot.
According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode of "The Matchmaker" achieved an rating of 4.3%, while episode 13 of the movie "Anonymous 3" recorded an rating of 12.8%.
Based on online novels, "Doubling Judge" follows Judge Lee Han Young (Ji Sung) - who once lived as a slave for his father-in-law's law firm and accidentally traveled back to the past 10 years ago. Given a second chance, he seeks justice by punishing evil people.
In episode 1, the story of Han Young is initially revealed. The film opens with the scene of the male lead wearing a prison uniform running away and being stabbed. Immediately after that, the film's setting returns to 2035, when Han Young is a well-known judge - but in fact is just a "laborer" for his wife's family, for money he accepts "changing black for white", hitting wherever he goes.
After 10 years, Han Young decided to quit his job and divorce his wife, but things were not easy. As a result, he decided to join hands with prosecutor Kim Jin Ah (Won Jin Ah) to impose the final sentence, retaliating against his wife's family.
Not acquittal as his father-in-law said, Han Young was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined 24 billion won for the tycoon CEO - double the prosecutor's sentence. But as soon as he first resisted, he was played dirty and had to appear in court as a defendant.
It can be seen that, still following the motif of disputes between tycoons and ordinary people, "Doubling Judge" still creates attraction because of the plot, especially the fantasy element - going back to the past, and Ji Sung's impressive acting.
Previously, the male actor said he participated in the film because this is not simply a story criticizing a specific case or issue, but a deep reflection on "the meaning of a person making the right choice".
To portray the conflict of diverse emotional levels of the character, Ji Sung focuses on creating a steadfast and vivid character. In addition, he tries to clearly express Han Young's emotions, judgments, and changes in value after this person returns to the past.
