Colonia" is currently one of the outstanding Korean films in 2026. After surpassing 4 million views in just 14 days, the film continues to maintain its appeal and officially reached 5 million tickets sold in Korea on the morning of June 13.
In Vietnam, the work premiered in theaters from June 12 and quickly recorded positive signals. According to data from Box Office Vietnam, "Colony" has surpassed the 14 billion VND revenue mark, including early screenings.
Besides commercial success, Jun Ji Hyun - the female lead of the film also became the focus of discussion thanks to her appearance being commented by many viewers as "unchangeable over time".
In a conversation with Korean media, the actress said she was quite surprised by the public's reaction. "I had absolutely no intention, so people reacting so positively surprised me. I was only wearing jeans and a white t-shirt.
Regarding being considered a part of the Korean screen beauty icon trio "Tae-Hye-Ji", including Kim Tae Hee, Song Hye Kyo and Jun Ji Hyun, she said: "I am very grateful to be mentioned with Kim Tae Hee and Song Hye Kyo in the "Tae-Hye-Ji" group, but I don't think I need to be beautiful at all costs.
The older I get, the more I feel that lifestyle is more important than appearance. If my body is healthy, my face will be naturally more beautiful. Doing my job well and taking care of my family is also equally important," she shared.
In "Colony", Jun Ji Hyun plays Kwon Se Jeong - a biotechnology professor caught up in a survival battle amidst the zombie pandemic. Unlike many action female characters often seen on screen, Se Jeong is built in a more realistic direction.
Jun Ji Hyun said that she actively avoided action scenes that were showy. "I am a biotechnology professor in the film. If I suddenly become a good at fighting, it will be very forced. I want to show what Se Jeong can really do in that situation" - she explained.
According to the actress, her goal is not to build a superhero image but to portray a normal person who can become a spiritual support for those around them in the midst of crisis.
Jun Ji Hyun also said that one of the important reasons she accepted to participate in "Colony" was the trust in director Yeon Sang Ho. The actress revealed that she has followed most of the male director's works and had wanted to have a chance to collaborate before.
According to Jun Ji Hyun, the atmosphere on the set of "Colony" was more comfortable and pleasant than she imagined. That made her even more want to continue accompanying Yeon Sang Ho in the next projects.
