Vietnamese tourists prefer sea tourism, going abroad during the September 2nd holiday

The 5-day National Day holiday of September 2nd is creating a boost for the tourism market, as Vietnamese tourists are simultaneously heading to domestic sea areas and international cities with convenient air routes.

The sea is still the main choice

Search data from Agoda and Booking. com shows that Da Nang is leading the trend of domestic tourism during the National Day holiday. On both platforms, this city is ranked No. 1. The list of most searched destinations also includes Nha Trang, Da Lat, Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi...

Notably, sea tourism continues to dominate. Agoda recorded 6/10, Booking. com statistics 7/10 domestic destinations associated with the sea and nature.

This trend is suitable for late summer resort needs. According to Booking.com, 57% of Vietnamese tourists surveyed said they plan to go to the beach, while 46% want to return to nature and mountains and forests. Destinations that can combine resort, nature exploration and cultural experience therefore continue to have an advantage during long holidays.

Da Nang stands out for its ability to meet many needs in the same journey, from sea resorts, cuisine to entertainment and exploring nearby destinations. Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Hoi An and Quy Nhon also benefit from sea resort needs. Meanwhile, the cool climate still keeps Da Lat attractive to tourists as summer ends.

The heat of domestic destinations is also reflected in the aviation market. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, key tourist routes on September 2nd were supplied with nearly 1 million seats, an increase of about 10% compared to the same period. The booking rate on some routes has been high, such as Ho Chi Minh City - Tuy Hoa 99%, Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao 98% and Hanoi - Chu Lai 100%; while Hanoi - Phu Quoc reached 69%. The Civil Aviation Authority assesses that ticket prices this year, although higher than usual, show signs of cooling down compared to previous years thanks to airlines increasing supply.

Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam - Country Director of Agoda Vietnam - commented: "Our search data shows that Vietnamese tourists are considering many diverse options for the National Day holiday, from sea, plateau and urban destinations in the country to popular destinations across Asia.

Short-term outbound trend increases attraction

The 5-day holiday creates conditions for Vietnamese tourists to make overseas trips without having to take too long leave. Destinations in Asia continue to have advantages thanks to their proximity, convenient routes, diverse services and suitable for 3-5-day journeys.

Booking.com data shows that 88% of Vietnamese tourists consider travel convenience and accessibility as important factors when choosing a destination. This is also an advantage of Southeast Asian and Northeast Asian cities, where tourists can combine sightseeing, shopping, cuisine and cultural experiences in a short time.

This trend is clearly shown through the list of destinations that are searched a lot, with Bangkok, Seoul, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo leading. However, long vacations also expand the choices of tourists when Paris, Sydney, Bali and Osaka are also present, showing that a part of Vietnamese tourists are willing to take longer journeys.

The aviation market also proactively increases supply to meet travel demand during the holidays. In which, Vietnam Airlines Group added 60,000 seats, raising the total supply load to nearly 725,000 seats; Vietjet added 82,000 seats, equivalent to 400 flights in the period August 26 - September 5. The load increase is implemented on routes connecting Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City with many tourist centers, thereby opening up more time and itinerary options for tourists.

The tourism market on September 2nd is therefore forecast to continue to be vibrant, as the demand for resort and exploration increases along with extended holidays, while accommodation and transportation supply is prepared in many segments.

This is also the time when destinations and tourism businesses compete by service quality, experience and price to maintain attractiveness to tourists.
