Vieng Market, also known as Vieng Phu Market, Vieng Xuan Market (in Vu Ban commune, Ninh Binh province) has appeared from a very long time ago, bearing the strong cultural features of the Northern Delta region. Every year, the market only has one session on the night of the 7th to the morning of the 8th day of the first lunar month, in front of Mr. Khong's communal house to in front of Tien Huong Headquarters in An Thai commune, former Comrade General; now Vu Ban commune, Ninh Binh province.
Vieng Market displays, introduces, and trades in a variety of products and utensils such as: seedlings, agricultural tools, handicrafts and household appliances.
Today, Vieng market still retains ancient cultural features but is organized on a larger scale, the market meeting space is large, usually stretching from the old Goi town along National Highway 37B, Vu Ban commune to Hien Khanh commune.
According to folk beliefs, the culture of going to Vieng market is "buying for good luck, selling for bad luck", so no one bargains and everyone buys something for themselves to bring back, from seedlings, ornamental plants, decorative souvenirs to production items, including used items. Besides buying and selling, tourists all go to temples and palaces in the Phu Day relic complex to pray for fortune and peace.
Recently, Vieng market also has another famous product, straw beef. Going to the market, tourists not only enjoy beef dishes at restaurants but can also buy them as gifts with the meaning of luck.
Mr. Tran Minh Hoan - Secretary of the Party Committee of Vu Ban commune - said that this year, after implementing the 2-level local government model, Vu Ban commune aims to build the commune into a spiritual tourism destination of Ninh Binh province. Currently, the local government has planned to organize the 2026 Vieng Xuan Market Festival on a larger scale. On that basis, aiming to establish dossiers to submit to competent authorities to recognize Vu Ban Spring Market as a national intangible cultural heritage.
To serve the needs of the people and pilgrims, the 2026 Vieng Phu Market Festival will open on the evening of the 6th and last until the 8th day of the first lunar month.
