Connecting Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba archipelago
When UNESCO recognized the Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh) - Cat Ba archipelago (Hai Phong) as a World Natural Heritage by September 2023, the opportunity for tourism development for both of these locations has become more open. However, a big challenge is how to effectively connect these two destinations.
According to the Ha Long Bay Management Board, every year there are about 400,000 tourists visiting Lan Ha Bay (Hai Phong) through Tuan Chau International Passenger Port (Tuan Chau Port) and Ha Long International Passenger Port (Ha Long Port). In 2024 alone, there will be nearly 500,000 visitors, most of whom are international visitors.
Currently, Ha Long Bay Management Board is implementing 11 sightseeing routes, including 3 routes connecting to Lan Ha Bay and 3 new routes to Ha Long Bay from May 1, 2025.
During the tourism connection implementation, the Ha Long Bay Management Board has received many proposals from the Hai Phong City Tourism Association and the Lan Ha Yacht Association (Hai Phong) on opening a number of new sightseeing routes on Ha Long Bay.
Currently, there is only one VHL 6 route from Tuan Chau Port and Ha Long Port to Lang Ha Bay. It is necessary to allow Hai Phong tourist boats to dock at Tuan Chau port and Ha Long port to pick up and drop off tourists, because currently tourists are being transported by canoe or tender between the sea bordering Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay.
Mr. Vu Kien Cuong, - Director of Ha Long Bay Management Board - said: "The proposals of Hai Phong City Tourism Association and Lan Ha Shipbuilding Association - are very reasonable, have a basis for resolution and the unit has proposed that the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province direct the official announcement to put into operation the connecting sightseeing tours between Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay from May 1, 2025.

Of the 10 tours on Bai Tu Long Bay that have been announced, there are 3 tours to experience the locations in Bai Tu Long National Park. Along with the sea spots such as Thien Nga island, Mang Ha overnight anchorage, Cai Lim beach, many locations in the island and mainland areas are also being studied and proposed for additions, such as plant breeding gardens, areas for distributing Vietnam heritage trees, turtle nesting areas...
Co To District - a tourist destination in Bai Tu Long Bay has just announced 8 island tours connecting destinations with favorable natural conditions, including: Co To Con Island, Hon Ca Chep, Hon Su Tu, Hon Bay Sao, Hon Dong Nam, Thanh Lan Island and Tran Island.
This is part of the pilot project to organize water recreation activities and visit islands issued by the People's Committee of Co To district, according to Decision No. 466/QD-UBND.
According to the project, from April 2025 to the end of 2026, Co To district will pilot many water recreation activities at famous beaches, such as Van Chay, Hong Van, Vung Tron, Ba Chau, Co To Con...with many types of rich services such as kayaking, water motorbikes, flying dus, and diving to see coral.
