Among Ly Hai's "Flip Side" films, "Flip Side 7" has a huge revenue when it reached 482 billion VND and became the second highest-grossing Vietnamese film of all time after Tran Thanh's "Mai" (520 billion VND).
Therefore, in the "Flip Side 8" part, many audiences question whether Ly Hai's new work can reach a new revenue milestone, exceeding the 7th part.
Regarding this issue, responding to Lao Dong Newspaper, Ly Hai said: "It is really difficult to surpass the record of Lat mat 7. I personally came to cinema from the zero number. I only have dreams and ambitions. I did not give myself many numbers to achieve and overcome. Being a filmmaker helps me become better and more perfect.
Every year, my crew and I always hope to make a meticulous product to send to the audience. What I hope most is that the audience watching Lat mat 8 will see the film touching emotions, not hundreds of billions.
As for the revenue, I emphasize once again that "Flip Side 8" in my opinion cannot achieve the same number asot mat 7 did".
Previously, when the film "Flip Side 8" received mixed reactions, director Ly Hai shared: " Ly Hai would like to sincerely thank everyone for taking the time to watch and share their feelings about "Flip Side 8: Sun Hands". Ly Hai is very lucky to have been in the arts for more than 30 years and is always loved and trusted by everyone. That is why Ly Hai always appreciates each person's contribution."
He added: Making films is a long journey that requires constant learning, change and acceptance. People's comments, as well as the newspapers, whether gentle or straightforward, Hai thanks - because that proves that everyone still cares about and loves him".
With " Lat mat 8", Ly Hai once again affirmed his good spirit: "Every day that passes, Ly Hai and the team try to learn so that their children's spirit will become better and better, worthy of everyone's affection and trust. I would like to thank everyone very much for accompanying, trusting and giving comments with a loving heart".
Despite its success in terms of revenue, "Flip Side 8" still received mixed comments about the quality of the script. Many people think that Ly Hai's film is safe and predictable...
"Flip Side 8" continues to exploit the conflict pattern of generations of father and child. Although it still maintains a familiar, easy-to-view storytelling style - typical of the "Flip Side" brand, this film is commented to follow an old way, lacking unexpected knots. Many important details have been revealed in the trailer, reducing the viewing experience.
However, "Flip Side 8" is still praised in some aspects such as investing heavily in the setting, with many scenes filmed in Phan Thiet, Phan Rang - Thap Cham and the participation of more than 5,000 mass actors.
