Debut after 7 years
On the afternoon of October 31, 2024, G-Dragon officially joined the Kpop race with the MV "Power". The song marked the return of the BigBang leader after 7 years as a solo artist, immediately creating a "big bang" with the Kpop fan community around the world.
The song is a hip-hop rap with G-Dragon's signature electronic melody combined with strong percussion, sharp lyrics and a unique one-shot MV (made with just one shot). This is also a profound response to the public pressure and baseless accusations that the male singer had to endure in 2023.
The MV "Power" reached the top of the MelOn Hot 100 chart after only 5 minutes. The song also quickly rose to the top of MelON, Gennie, Bugs charts... and "broke" iChart in less than 1 day.
"Power" also recorded 83,313 unique listeners on MelOn after 1 hour of release, becoming the song with the highest achievement from 2021 to date.
In China, the song sold more than 100,000 copies after only 5 minutes of being released on QQ Music and achieved Platinum certification with 250,000 copies within 1 hour and 15 minutes of release.
"Power" was G-Dragon's impressive debut, proving that the BigBang leader's music never goes out of style. Not long after, the trio G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung had an explosive collaboration with "Home Sweet Home".
Without an official MV, "Home Sweet Home" quickly swept the charts in Korea and many Asian countries. The Big Bang trio set the MAMA 2024 stage on fire with their new song, reviving the golden age of the one-time Kpop legend.
As of January 1, 2025, "Home Sweet Home" has held the No. 1 spot on MelOn Weekly Chart for 5 consecutive weeks and shows no signs of stopping. G-Dragon became the first solo artist to take the top spot on MelOn's monthly chart for three consecutive decades (2000, 2010, and 2020).
Despite not being promoted on weekly music stages, the song still won trophies at several music shows in Korea. "Power" and "Home Sweet Home" also brought the male singer many domestic and international awards at the end of the year.
The new smart move
The two comeback songs at the end of 2024 are G-Dragon's test for the music market after 7 years of absence. However, instead of continuing to stand on stage, releasing many new songs or organizing a World Tour around the world, G-Dragon chose a different direction.
In mid-December 2024, BigBang's leader made fans excited when he announced the launch of a new entertainment show called "Good Day" - a music project directly produced by G-Dragon.
G-Dragon's program in collaboration with producer Kim Taeho, released by MBC in the first half of 2025. In it, G-Dragon and famous guests from many different fields will compose and complete new songs together.
