When contestants are no longer new faces
The Top 30 Miss Universe Vietnam 2026 is attracting attention because many contestants have a certain position in the entertainment industry and beauty contests.
MLee is the clearest case. At the age of 34, she has been active for many years as a singer, actress, and has participated in many television programs. In 2024, MLee first competed in Miss Universe Vietnam and entered the Top 5. Two years later, she returned with the goal of going further.
Quynh Anh is even the 1st runner-up of Miss Universe Vietnam 2024. According to the organizers, this is the first time a current runner-up has returned to the competition that once awarded her the title to continue competing for the crown. Previously, she was a familiar face of the fashion industry with the achievement of runner-up of The Face Vietnam 2018, champion of Supermodel Me 2021.
Hong Dang is also not new. She won the 2nd runner-up of Miss Universe Vietnam 2023, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, used to work at Wall Street and is currently active in the field of training and human development.
More notably is Trinh My Anh. The 23-year-old beauty is holding the title Miss Earth Water 2025 after representing Vietnam in Miss Earth in the Philippines. When the international term had not ended, she continued to register and entered the Top 30 Miss Universe Vietnam 2026.
The simultaneous appearance of many experienced faces makes this year's season likened by the competition manager Pham Duy Khanh to an "All Stars" season.
The crown is not the only value
If before, beauty pageants were often the door to bring a new face into showbiz, the opposite is becoming increasingly clear when people who have been active in showbiz come to beauty pageants to open another door.
For MLee, the reputation of a singer does not mean a position in the beauty field. Returning after Top 5 in 2024 shows that the competition may become an opportunity to add a new identity alongside the artist image that she has built for many years.
Quynh Anh is in a different situation. The title of runner-up has helped her have a position, but the crown is associated with the opportunity to become a representative of Vietnam in the Miss Universe arena. Therefore, the gap from runner-up to Miss is not simply changing rankings but can also open up another international journey.
Trinh My Anh's case shows that attraction more clearly. She has an international title but still chooses a new track. This decision is also controversial because My Anh is still in the Miss Earth Water 2025 term. There is currently no public information showing how specifically her contract with Miss Earth stipulates participating in a national-level competition, so it is not possible to conclude that she violated her current duties.
Behind a beauty contest today is not only the crown. Contestants are allowed to appear continuously in the media, participate in fashion, television, advertising and build a community of followers. For those who are already famous, the contest can become a repositioning campaign lasting many weeks.
But celebrities also have to bear the opposite pressure. A new contestant can create surprises, while MLee, Quynh Anh or Hong Dang all enter the competition with old achievements for comparison. Stopping at a lower position or not showing progress easily becomes a topic of discussion.
That is also the reason why Miss Universe Vietnam 2026 is noteworthy when the competition is not only between beauties who want to enter showbiz, but also between those who already have fame but want to go further.
In that context, the crown is still the biggest destination, but no longer the only value. A beauty contest can bring international opportunities, media coverage and a new positioning. For those who are already famous, the question is not only whether they win the crown or not, but also after the contest, their names are placed in a different position.
