On the occasion of Korean author Hankang winning the Nobel Prize in Literature, the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam in collaboration with the Vietnam Writers Association and Dai Nam University organized the event "Korean Literature Translation Festival 2024" on December 7, 2024 at Dai Nam University.
At this event, Korean literature lovers will have the opportunity to directly interact and chat with translator Hoang Hai Van - the translator of the novel "The Vegetarian" (author Han Kang); and listen to the sharing about the translation story and the relationship between the translator and author Han Kang.
In addition, there will be an exchange program with translator Le Dang Hoan - who has brought the beauty of Korean poetry closer to Vietnamese readers with many typical translated poetry works such as "Hoa do rhododendron", "Su tinh tinh yeu"...
At the same time, Dr. Ha Minh Thanh - member of the Translation Council of the Vietnam Writers Association and Dr. Tran Hai Duong - Head of the Department of Korean Language and Culture, Dai Nam University - will also give a lecture introducing Korean literary translation in Vietnam.
In particular, during the event, the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam will organize a corner displaying Korean literary works and Vietnamese translations of works by author Han Kang and other Korean authors. Currently, in Vietnam, there are 3 works by author Han Kang translated and published, including "The Vegetarian" (2011), "The Nature of People" (2019), "White" (2022).
Mr. Choi Seung Jin - Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam said that author Han Kang winning the Nobel Prize in Literature also created an extremely strong effect in Vietnam.
Nowadays, in Vietnam, more and more Korean language and Korean studies departments are being established. At the same time, more and more Korean literary works are being translated into Vietnamese, published in Vietnam and receiving the attention and love of readers.
Therefore, in the future, the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam will carry out many projects related to Korean literature so that Vietnamese readers have more opportunities to access Korean literature.
Starting from 2020, the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam has organized many projects with the theme "Vietnam - Korea: Connecting through each page of books" to promote Korean literature such as Book Exhibition, Korean Literature Appreciation Contest, Korean Literature Drama Contest...
