Mr. Vu Phuong - son of musician Ha Phuong - shared with reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper about the process of exploiting the copyright of many famous songs of his father, musician Ha Phuong.
According to Mr. Vu Phuong, many years ago, his father signed a contract to transfer the rights to exploit about 45-50 famous songs with BH Media introduced by singer Quang Lap. He said that at that time, his father was over 80 years old and his health was much weaker.
Initially, the family still received copyright-related payments. However, later, the family no longer received copyright money.
When the family contacted BH Media, they received a response that the company had complied with the signed contract.
After that, the family hired a lawyer for advice and was informed that the contract was in the form of indefinite exploitation rights transfer," Vu Phuong said.
He said that this makes his family sad because musician Ha Phuong's famous songs continue to be widely exploited on many platforms, but his family has not received royalties for many years.
According to sharing from the family, the incident lasted for many years, significantly affecting the spirit of musician Ha Phuong. In recent years, he has been constantly ill, his health has declined and led to strokes.
Musician Ha Phuong is 88 years old this year, and is the author of many famous songs such as "Mua dem tinh nho", "Bong dien dien", "Em ve miet thu"... His compositions are associated with music of the Mekong Delta region and are loved by many generations of audiences.
He currently lives in Dong Thap with his family. For many years, he has been seriously ill and has difficulty walking.
On May 16, Nguyen Hai Binh - General Director of BH Media, and also Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Creative and Copyright Association - was prosecuted by C03 Ministry of Public Security to investigate the act of infringing copyright and related rights under Article 225 of the Penal Code, which is attracting great public attention.
In the same case, many individuals operating in the entertainment and music fields such as representatives of Lululola Entertainment, May Saigon and singer Quang Lap were also prosecuted.
Previously, BH Media had repeatedly been involved in controversies related to music copyright on YouTube. Prominent is the case of musician Giang Son's song "Noon Dream" being labeled with copyright warnings by the system in 2021.
