Highlights to help Vietnamese music "grow up"
Bac Bling by Hoa Minzy combined with People's Artist Xuan Hinh and Tuan cry is the most obvious mark of VPop 2025. The song converges youthful, catchy melodies, the image is rich in cultural content, bringing the space of the Bac Ninh family to modern Pop products. The "huge" views on YouTube, the influence on social networks and the frequency of appearances in real life prove that this is not just a hit, but a cultural phenomenon that helps folk music get closer to young audiences.
The songs written about peace, the past of war, and national pride are exploited in a more youthful and closer way, no longer frame in the "commissioning music" of the holiday. In particular, the song "Continuing the story of peace" reached billions of views and became a phenomenon in 2025.
In the production sector, 2025 is considered the year of the album and EP's rise. A series of artists have released long-term projects such as Giua mot ngan ngan (Phong Khanh Linh), Dear Min (Min), Burning Blue (USA), Trap (Rhyder), La Moon (Lamoon), KIM (Chillies), EP Khoi treu of (S) TRONG...
The common point is that these products do not stop at collecting many songs, but are built with clear concepts, machles of emotions, and unique music: From Dream Pop, Synth retro, modern R&B to Pop/Ballad with its own color.
In performing life, large-scale concerts continue to prove the appeal of Vietnamese music. Soobin's live concert with a clear and well-arranged choreography affirms his position as a multi-purpose entertainer. Ha Anh Tuan's shows abroad, music nights associated with TV formats such as "Anh trai say hi", "Em xinh say hi", youth star gathering programs... show that audiences are still willing to pay for seriously invested live products.
Internationally, Duc Phuc winning a music competition abroad, Phuong My Chi achieving high results in the Asian playground, My Linh's Asian tour or cross-border collaborations are positive signals: Vietnamese music is no longer limited to the "village", but has begun to have more opportunities to rub shoulders.
2025 also marks the return of vinyl culture. Coal disc fair, workshop for beginners, documentary film about coal disc culture in Ho Chi Minh City...
The same unfillled gaps
The excitement of quantity does not mean the endurance of quality. Digital music charts show reality: Many of the most listened positions still belong to songs released from 2023 - 2024. Apart from a few truly explosive names, most of the new songs in 2025 only "came to the top" for a short time and were quickly replaced.
The reason is that many products still stick to the formula: Easy-to-fake melody, "trend" choreography to use on social networks, but the lyrics are thin, with few breakthroughs, lacking stories long enough for the audience to stick with. When the life cycle of a song is only calculated in weeks, it is difficult to say "hit heritage" for the whole year.
Many famous artists return after a period of silence, but the new product has not met expectations. There are MVs with large images, but the lyrics are criticized for being cliche, the lyrics are forced, and the arrangements are mixed with many genres but still lack highlights.
Focusing too much on views, TikTok trends or the ability to create virals sometimes puts the market in a position to follow more shocking products that are emotional. Some songs are labeled "disaster" because of bland lyrics, superficial messages, and awkward melodies, but still appear dense thanks to content promotion campaigns or the curiosity of listeners.
Looking at it realistically, Vietnamese music in 2025 has many plus points: Bac Bling phenomenon, folk waves, culture. However, in order not to stop at a year with many buzz points but few long-term "purses", the market needs more solid steps such as artists focusing on building identity, not falling into the formula of "fast hit - forget quickly", the producer, the organizer balancing between commercial attraction and aesthetic responsibility.
When those factors converge, what Vietnamese music will achieve in 2025 will not only be a temporary "fever", but will become the foundation for a more sustainable development period in the future.
