All kinds of "trend-catching" songs are out of place but have empty content
A series of songs such as 2-3 con ly, Dong Vang, Anh hua khong bao mai dua nua, Bang thang non hoa... appeared heavily on short videos, edited, arranged at a large scale and shared widely. Most of these songs only focus on the catchy chord section of a few dozen seconds, in line with the trend of "speed up" or "remix Vinahouse" without fully investing in the message, melody or musical structure.
Instead of composing a song with depth, many young musicians and singers choose a "trend" strategy - that is, writing music just to get famous on TikTok. This makes a song that can carry a positive message broken, being "cut away" with only a few viral sentences. listeners gradually get used to enjoying music through a 15 - 30 second section, forgetting the value of a complete song.
Musician Nguyen Van Chung commented: "The meaningless lyrics but still viral in the past are not rare. However, these songs only live on the trend, without endurance. The audience will listen to me a lot and then eliminate me.
In fact, many songs that are being widely spread have superficial or offensive content, causing mixed reactions. A typical example is "Wishing to crawl, I made a look" by singer Duong Ai Vy with the lyrics: "Give a tailor and then affirm the bag and catch my heart and leave it there/Wishing to crawl, I made a look in your mirror, this is much more beautiful than you".
Or another part of her new song: "I'm a bit delicious, I don't like to eat beaten but I like to wear a gold ring... You're a handsome man from a rich family, you have a lot of money but you don't know how to spend it...".
Not only Duong Ai Vy, some songs have Western colors such as "Em khong want rao" (Linh Vy ft. Dat Max) with the line: "Dang yen dang lanh tu nhien, the boy's family brought in, relatives on both sides with beetroot tea..." was also criticized for being cliche, lacking creativity, exploiting the image of a wedding in a fake way.
Or the song "S closing your eyes to love" became popular on TikTok with the doan: "People keep saying you are bad but you don't believe it... If you stop being pitying, you will close your eyes to love" is considered a meaningless song that easily oriented young people but easily accepted and spread.
In particular, songs with modern folk sounds in the West are being abused the element of "hards, laughter, and beautiful country songs" to attract views, without longer maintaining the inherent charm and quality.
When music is "cut" and the audience needs selection
The trend of "cutting up" songs to create trends not only deprives music values, but also affects the enjoyment thinking of young people. Instead of listening to a whole song to feel the message, today's audiences often only remember a few "hot" singing lines on TikTok. Music emotions are replaced by the lyrics and views element.
Many singers choose to release songs on TikTok before releasing them officially, in order to measure the appeal of the product. This approach helps them reach audiences quickly, but at the same time makes many people consider TikTok as the only measure of music success, instead of reputation rankings or artistic recognition.
As a result, a series of immediately eat songs were released. They may float for a few weeks, but quickly disappear when a new trend appears. Many music experts are concerned that this will create a "lack of roots" generation of composers, only caring about "views and likes", forgetting the emotional and humane values - the core elements that make a song live forever. In addition, the spread of nonsense and offensive lyrics also affects the awareness of young listeners.
It is time for audiences to be more selective in listening and sharing music, and professionals need to ask the question: "What does this song mean?" instead of "Is this song worth going viral?". As musician Nguyen Van Chung said: "In other words, meaningless songs can flourish thanks to the trend, but the true value of music is only proven by time".
When the music market is dominated by short-term platforms, maintaining quality and depth is not only the responsibility of artists, but also the awareness of listeners. Because otherwise, "Vietnamese music" will be just broken pieces, short-lived on TikTok clips and then disappear, leaving a big gap for an art scene that was once expected to be more.
