On the afternoon of September 27, part 2 of the movie "Gyeongseong Creature" officially aired, continuing the story in Seoul (Korea) in 2024, when Yoon Chae Ok (Han So Hee) meets a new character Ho Jae - who looks exactly like Jang Tae Sang (Park Seo Joon).
Before the film's release, director Chung Dong Yoon expressed his confidence when revealing that part 1 and part 2 have many differences, in which the highlight is the fast pace of storytelling. Along with that, the crew also focused on visual and sound elements to suit the modern context.
According to the director, when Part 1 was released, the editing process for Part 2 was already complete. But when he saw the somewhat indifferent reaction from the public, he decided to re-edit the film. “I couldn’t predict what the reaction would be. However, as a director, in this part, I focused on helping the audience connect with the film.”
Not only the director and crew, but also the two main actors Park Seo Joon - Han So Hee were very excited when the film aired. However, the work has not really conquered the audience and the media.
The SCMP newspaper commented that the first part of “Gyeongseong Creature” was not without problems, but the film benefited from a clear plot, taking place mainly in the same location, as a group of mismatched people work together to achieve a common goal.
As for part 2, the crew took another step back. Moving the story to modern Seoul, giving the main characters superpowers, and adding villains made the film feel overloaded.
In part 2, Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee have many action scenes, but the film is criticized for its patchwork editing, heavy reliance on CGI, making many scenes low quality, "like cutscenes in a second-rate action horror video game".
SMCP emphasized that, in addition to the confusing plot and unsophisticated visuals, the main couple's romance could not make up for the film's shortcomings, especially when Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee failed to convey the romance and pain that viewers expected.
“Gyeongseong Creature 2” ended with a teaser for a sequel. But the media said that maybe the audience didn’t really need to watch a third season because Netflix had previously tried to make “Sweet Home 3” but the results were mostly negative because it was “boring to watch” with “unnecessarily brutal scenes”.
